It depends on where you are in texas. Some places they are rare, other places they are everywhere. I have never seen any hunting. They are suppose to be good eating.

We have them fly over our neighborhood every evening. We even had them and their young running around the neighborhood and in the pool. Never seem them while hunting though.

if my aim with my 4 iron was as good as it is with my shotgun I would kill a limit every time i played golf. They are everywhere in houston on a handful of courses.

Is it duck season yet?

i dont think he meant to type a run on sentence he is just not used to using punctuation on the forum he lives in abilene and has a bunch of whistlers in his area sounds like a good problem to have maybe he can get lucky and kill a few the season starts in november

Abilene sure seems far west and north of the normal range for both texas tree ducks. Sure your not talking about wood ducks?
Or...you know both are sold by hatcherys. Someone in the area could have bought some for their pond or lake and inadvertently started a colony of them in your area.

I don't think there are many, if any, wood ducks or whistlers in Abilene.

I read on here where some fellas got a few whistlers in Centex, that was the first time I'd heard of anyone shooting someplace other than near the coast or Mexico.

We had some nest on our lease in southeast AR, and I just saw a pair last week at Lake Fork, but once winter rolls around, they have all headed south!

I only see them in April and May, and only at one place, on our football and baseball fields.

Seen them in Wills Point, but that was after the season was over. Early spring.
