he might be 4.5. The summer is the hardest time to judge a deers age. 3.5 or 4.5 whatever you want to call it. He will be a beast tho if alive still

If you constantly see him on your land and you have a large place i would save him, hes young and has several more years to pass on his genes. so years to come you will have many bucks looking like that. but if the pigs are bad.....TAKE HIM

The only reason i work, is so that i could afford to hunt.

I'm with you. If you want to harvest the buck, then do so! The backstrap is the main thing for me anyway.

Man I am guessing low to mid 130's and between 25 and 3.5 yrs old. This will be a FINE buck in 2 years, if you can keep him around that long.

deer is def. 3.5yo belly is saggin' and the extra skin hangin' at the bottom of the neck. Compare him the the smaller buck in the pic that is for sure a 2.5yo. You were dead on about the prospect though unless you are really tryin' to grow monster's then this deer is ready to cull! He should be atleast sportin' 10pts by 4.5 to break that 170" mark!

that's the skinniest shouldered 3.5 I have ever seen if he is.....

Yeah you must be right! K he is 2.5yo and going to break 180" this year as an 8! Not to many deer in TX with big shoulder's. Ever been to Brady? Coyote's are bigger out there! This is clearly a 3.5yo. Deer. I am a game cam and scouting Freak and have a million game cam pic's! Once I figure out the Photobucket thing I will post you a yearling 2yo 3yo and 4yo that I have from my ranch last year! duel

Don't know part of Brady you hunt but both deer taken off my buddies place where at or broke the 160 lb mark and both where very heavy shouldeed at 4.5 and 5.5 years old. Seen a couple stud 3.5 that will break the 160lb mark also. Thats coming from a guy that splits hunting time via Melvin and the Kansas/ Okla border.

As far as 2.5 or 3.5 in that picture it could easily go either way in the summer, even more so since we don't know feeding program... ect, and only have one picture
Looking at a deer belly in the summer will make you wrong more times then right.

Correct on the feeding program! Never have seen a fat deer outta brady it was just a TX deer are more like dog size compared to our luck northerner's! Even in the summer though when you know that the deer standing next to it is not 3.5 and not a yearling it is farely safe to say that he has got at least one year on the other buck and doesn't have the super old look and the higher neck Posture that a 4.5yo will have! That's just where I'm coming from Back to Topic. Yes I woulda shot this deer as an 8 on my ranch simply because we are not after big 8pt's we are after true sad daddy's! Never did shoot a buck last year and saw a whole bunch in real time and on game cam that look like both of these! Just wondering to the original poster of this topic! Were these the two largest deer seen around the lease this year? If so my answer would prolly be new feed program maybe year round - food plot's - protein somethin'! Nice deer for the weekend warrior but from the sound of thing's you are lookin' for a bigun' and this place may not hold one especially after your hog invasion!

WHo said 180?
Yes I have been to Brady.
Spent a day or two in the deer fields in my life...
Distinct lines from neck to shoulders rate it an immature deer in my book, couple that with a 4 inch diameter upper shoulder, he looks small.... but hey you are the deer cam freak, so I will concede, not worth arguing over....

Shoot him, depends on the management objectives and location

I odn't know how people can be so positive in the deer's age to the exact year. I shot a deer last year that was 9.5 years old. I thought it was "old" but I didn't think it was 9.5.

I don't think that 8 is mature, so he may have so more potential. 3 trail cam photos, from within the same year doesn't give me enough information to say "shoot him, don't shoot him", etc... it all depends what you're after. If you're after big 8's, then let him go. If you're trying to get rid of 8's, then shoot him....

IMO, the deer with the sticker off the back of his right G2 under the feeder is 2.5. The big 8 looks 3.5 or possibly even 4.5. He's a great deer and I believe will be in the 30s.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

AMEN! Not a deer cam freak that's just part of my sick obsession with huge buck's! Whitetail Freak all the way! Gettin' pic's is not half the battle to setting up stand's feeding timing and the all important LUCK!

DID U HAVE THE JAW BONE AGED? B/C ONCE THEY GET TO 8.5 THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL THE AGE OF THE DEER EVEN AFTER LOOKING AT THE JAW BONE. IT IS JUST CALLED 8.5+.

I'd have to see in person. He looks too young, probably 2 1/2. His youth plus rack makes him look more impressive than he probably is. I doubt he made it until the 2009 season, though. IF he made it, and is around this year, he'll be a whopper.

I had it aged by the biologist who has been a full time employee of the ranch for 8 years.....

just because the plaque on the wall stops at an 8.5 year old jaw bone doesn't mean "it stops" at 8.5 years old...

Also, depending on the deer's diet, or area you're hunting can make aging strictly off the jaw vary from place to place. A buddy of mine hunts in Kleberg county, and their deer would typically age older than deer shot further in land where the soil isn't as sandy.

I AM JUST SAYING WHAT OUR BIOLOGIST SAID. THIS IS ALSO WHAT TP&W SAYS SO NO THE JAW BONE ONLY TELLS A CERTAIN AGE THEN IT CANNOT BE TOLD BEYOND 8.5.
