its because its a gmc. you should never have problems with your front diff because you rarely use the 4x4, unless you go offraoding all the time then that is different. its probably got a short in the wiring that controls the locking and unlocking of the hubs. i have manual hubs so i dont have that problem though.

What made you suspect the actuator? Check the connection at the T-Case. Check above.

There is a fuse in your fuse panel for the wiring harness for that actuator. Probably blown. I had a 94 that blew that fuse all the time.

Unplug actuator at pigtail, get a test light, have someone push the 4WD button while you test the circuit. There are 2 wires that will have current seperately. One engages the pin, the other disengages it. This is assuming you checked the fuse. It is either the wiring, fuse, actuator or the ring and pinion and that is not likely. Good luck, GUT

hmmm... if you can hear the actuator engage, i would think it would be a vacuum leak at the hubs, if they're vacuum operated. my ford would do that crap all the time, until i switched over to manual hubs. may be a good time to switch over... they usually run about 80$ and they're easy to install.

found your problem... you got this thing in front of your grill that has gmc written on it..lol just kidding, check on a gmc/chevy forum or take to offroad place and get looked at, BUT just get them to tell you whats wrong with it first then go look it up before they work on it, some places will just screw you around and "fix" small stuff when its really a bigger prob. just to get more money outta ya. best of luck?

What off road place did you take it to?
If you don't "exercise" your 4wd system, it'll get sticky, and parts will break or fail. Engage it every couple of weeks for a few minutes and then shift back to normal.
My old Bronco will get really ornery if I don't shift it pretty regularly. It's been in 4 lo for the last couple of years for the most part.

Jeeps are the same way, you have to use it or it will do more damage. Cars are designed to do what there designed for if you dont generally it causes problems.
