Can you use a handgun? I think it would be awesome to try to get a headshot on a turkey with my .357 this spring.

Maybe I want to shoot a turkey with a revolver because it is a challenge. Hitting a turkey in the head with a revolver would be a very hard thing to do, harder than shooting one with a shotgun by far

Not trying to start something here, but using a rifle would take all the fun out of it. The best part about turkey hunting is hearing the bird gobble and trying to outwit that longbeard and coax him into shotgun range. It's not all about the kill. Rifles are illegal in LA., but if it's legal where you are and you want to use a rifle, that's your choice. As for me, even if it were legal, I still wouldn't use one. Use a bow and be a man....LOL

Used 22 and shotgun. Both within 20 yards. Either one works.

Lavaca and Gonzales Counties are not restricted to shotgun only, those are Rio Grande Turkeys, not Easterns.

I have nothing against hunting with rifles, bows, or even trucks for that matter, but shotgun hunting is the ONLY way to get the MOST out of turkey hunting...and NO ONE can argue this until they have taken a bird with a shotgun in the spring...for that matter, probably no one who HAS will argue this. Its just somethhing every hunter should experience...ITS SUCH A RUSH!
Anyway, just my 2 cents. Good luck and safe hunting!

Anyway, just my 2 cents. Good luck and safe hunting! I will argue that, and I have taken several toms at full strut with a shotgun. My biggest rush is calling them in close and using the ol' stick and string!

rifles work just fine
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I'm going to be trying for a kill with a bow this year. If that doesn't work out, I might break out my .44 mag.
