This is actually Carol's new pup, "Rusty". He joined our household yesterday. The three dawgs are getting to know each other and seem to be fine as of now. He just might make an additional duck dawg this fall.

I like the way Carol is keeping it real.

Duck season has been over for almost a month and she's still rockin' the parka and camo crocs. Awesome!

Wasn't going to mention here just yet but Carol told me she thought that I should ...

On a sad note ... the stitches showing on Cappy's right shoulder is from one of five mast cell tumors that were removed Monday. He had nine other Lipomas that were aspirated but left intact for now because they appeared benign upon slide examination. The pathology results came back yesterday afternoon and it's somewhat grim. The largest of the tumors (shown in the pic) was between grade 2 and 3 and is malignant.

We're sorting out our options and emotions right now before deciding what to do next. Without further treatment the prognosis is 6-12 months. With radical surgery (removing an additional 1" margin all the way around the tumor) and then six months of radiation and chemo ... the prognosis might stretch to 24-30 months. However there's no guarantees of that and he could be somewhat debilitated by the surgery and treatments.

Ever been punched really hard in the belly? Even when you see it coming it's still extremely painful.

Happy and Sad post all at once frown. What a cute new dog, and I can tell he is pretty smart because he is staying close to Carol laugh He already figured out who momma is and who is going to spoil wink

It hurts me to hear about Cappy. I have been down that road and while I know I will have to again I don't wish it on anyone. I'm sorry.

Yes. We lost our Black Lab due to cancer, so I've got a pretty good idea of the emotions your experiencing right now.

It hurts and I'll leave it at that.

On a brighter note, the new pup is beautiful.

He is your friend defender your dog. Be worthy of such devotion

That is a great looking new pup you have there. He has some big shoes to fill.

Sad to hear about your best friend. It ain't over yet!

The new pup looks like it has longer hair? Is it a golden retriever or just a fuzzy little lab pup?

Jim/Carol,

Let the ole boy, enjoy the last days/months/years of his life...

The last thing you want to do is run him in and out of that surgery room...

He is a happy boy, and always has been...

Take your pic's, give him all the love you always have and Enjoy time with him!!!!

It hurt me to see the pics of him...(today) crying

Take care, and give that pooch a hug for me!!!!! up

Jim - that just sucks about Cappy. I totally understand what you are going thru. We had the same thing with Dusty 2 1/2 years ago. Keep you chin up. Hopefully the chemo will help.

Rusty looks like a real cutie.

Really sorry to hear this. I know it is painful and hard to understand. My sister and brother-in-law just went through this with a lab. I am sure you are close with your vet and they will shoot you straight. You need to ask them some questions about the quality of life they will have during and after the treatment. Don't treat them for selfish reasons if it is not worthwhile to the animal. Again I know it is difficult but when you look into their eyes they will help you make the decision.

Good Luck.

Astute observation! Keep in mind that he's Carol's dawg and came from solid hunters on both sides.

The coat? Well that's because he's a **hand over mouth causing muffled mumblng** breed but you wouldn't know it from the pics, huh?

Fluffy Dawg

I noticed too, but didn't want to cast aspersions at such a young fella.

Let me explain by telling you that Carol and I were married almost 21 years ago. She was 42 at the time and had raised poodles all of her life. From that time forward she has graciously accepted gun dawgs only in our family. Shorthairs, Setters and Labs. She fell in love with hunting as a result.

We're now at a stage in life where getting a new gun dawg pup wouldn't really be fair to the dawg ... it is highly unlikely that it would be able to have a full career with us. However, a "pet" dog would work well for Carol. So ... she decided that maybe a compromise was in order. How about a dawg that would be an excellent pet but could possibly make a reasonable duck dawg as well.

So guess what?

I can't wait to see him retrieving this season. Does the name rhyme with "flabacoodle"? If so, I have heard that they make good duck dogs. up

Ha ha ha ...

Pictured are Mother, father and paternal grandparents. Maternal grandparents were not on site but are a pure yellow and black Lab.

The kennel is owned by a husband and wife team, both of whom are doctors. They have a partner who is an attorney and another one that is a Mediator for the Family Court.

Our new pup was already neutered at nine weeks. No pups leave this kennel without being spayed or neutered and with all shots and health checks completed. Parents are all pennhip and OFA eye certified. NOT a back yard breeder by a long stretch.
