In Texas what is law regarding length of barrels for rifles? I am looking at Noveske N4 with a 12.5" barrel + flash hider. Is this rifle legal in Texas?

16" barrel unless you have a tax stamp.

Cant be shorter than 16". Most you find are 16.1" before the flash hider is added. You can have a shorter barrel but the flash hider must be pinned to make the length of the barrel 16".

Noveske makes some Awesome barrels. What type of flash hider are you planning to use to bring it to 16" ? You might have to go with the 13.25" and add the pig or go with the 14.5 and add one of the flash hiders that are designed to bring the total length to 16". Either way they will have to be pinned.

In that case I will probably wind up going with the 14.5 Afgan with a pig.

The 13.25" (I think thats the length) is cut to that length so it can be used with a pinned pig and bring the total length to 16". One thing to think about is that the pig, while tacticool on short barrel rifles, looks kinda weird on the longer barrels. The pig is actually designed to help the SBRs cycle corectly and doesnt add any performance (for lack of a better word, LOL) to a longer barrel rifle, guys just add them for looks or dont realize its intended use. If it where me I would go with the 14.5 and go with a regular flash hider that was designed for the longer barrels. JMO.

Have you found someone who sells the Noveske barrel in different lengths ? I know they are around $450 through Noveske and they dont always have all lengths available. Last time I was on their website anyways...

Just get your stamp and go with the Noveske 7.5" like I did. Then the flaming pig looks super cool and actually helps out.

You would be amazed at the accuracy I can get out of this thing as well. Check out these groups from 50 yards. These were the first rounds ever shot from the gun. Most were just having the front of the gun on a rest and then me trying to hold the back steady. Group #7 was where I actually had the full gun on a rest... both front and back. In that group they are all touching. That's true sub moa groups from a 7.5" barrel. Heck... with the 1 in 7 twist, the bullet doesn't even turn a full rotation.

Either way you go... Noveske is the sh!t. If you can swing it, pick up one of the monolithic uppers (vltor vis systems)they offer as well. Keeps the whole thing super tight/more accurate... and it looks bad arse if you ask me up

$200 and 5-6 months time. grin You will need a copy of quickin willmaker or to be friends with a lawyer and to turn in some paperwork to the BATF to have a short barrel rifle and you are all set. If you have a clean background and really want to go that way, shoot me a PM and I will walk you through it... it's not too hard... just takes some time to get the tax stamp back... but IT'S WORTH IT!!!!!
