Well, we took all 5 of our dogs out to the lease this weekend including the new GSP I picked up back in the summer. Good news is we found 8 coveys of mature birds with anywhere from 12-20 birds in each. Spent a good time bumping each covey in this warmer weather, able to find the singles as well. Dogs had no problem winding the birds, only ran through them once. The bad news is that the GSP that was so promising turned out a bust. She has no drive to hunt....didn't even show interest in the dead quail. Oh well, I guess my wife now has an expensive house pet. We were just happy we found as many covey's as we did given the weather conditions and the recent reports. The highlight of the weekend was walking up on two 200+lb pigs bedded in some tall grass. The dogs were as flustered as the pigs were...just kind of sat there looking at each other until the pigs finally ran off. I think Jan & Feb will be even better once the weather gets cold and stays cold.

Maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

Our lease is out near Kent County - all the quail were Bob's. We haven't seen Blues since 2005, they pulled a Houdini! As far as the dog goes, I'm not holding out any hope after what I saw.

Hate to be a pest but what is the nearest town to your lease? I'm going south of Spur just over the Dickens county line in Kent county next week and need some good news.

Sounds like a good trip (other than the GSP). I hope we can find some birds on our place after the deer hunters are gone. Like Blanked said, dont give up on the GSP, I would bet that it gets better.

Our thoughts exactly - 8 decent coveys with mature birds in a day & a halfs hunting given the conditions is alright in our book.....one thing we did notice, we've met a lot of hunters from Georgia - and they're driving! Talk about dedication....I think I might work with dunce in the off season on some pen raised birds and see if her demeanor changes after she's got some consistency. I'll keep yall updated on the birds, supposed to head back out early Jan

South of Clairmont here so make that 4 people. I have seen a few birds at our place, but we have no cattle so we have lots of cover. We hunt quail usaually after deer season. We may only shoot 1 or 2 birds from each covey this year and probablly no more than 20 birds total all season. Hopefully they can figure out this avian flu and get things back to normal.

I think all those west Texas towns have a 5* diner. That's been my experience.

The five star dinner is jerry's bar. grill, and it is only 67 miles to the bunny run.

chet, you need lots of guidance.
