I could really care less what these people think. I have hunted most of this season at a feeder, and have only killed one doe. And she was old, and was a good one to take out. Only saw a few bucks, but they were all to young to take.

how many have had that conversation with non hunters. the only thing good that can come of this is that you can change their view by getting them out in the field. if that don't work you just chalk it up to the fact they were either dropped as baby's or ate paint chips.

Read her bio page. This is one tough lady. Read further and read about her plight with her daughter and raising one of her grandsons. She comes from a hunting family, and admittedly is afflicted by the Pacific Northwest indoctrination (Said with a big grin). Many of my hunting buddies from outside of the lower Midwest can't conceive of why we hunt from blinds. Different terrains dictate different tactics and we need to take the time to educate and inform. Lord knows everyone and their dog is moving to Texas and will eventually be imposing their beliefs, founded or not, on the Texicans. My two cents is to give this lady the respect of informing her with facts and see where it goes. She may be your county judge a year or two down the road. texas

Thats why I tried to keep my comment respectful. Nothing good would come out of badmouthing her and her opinions when discussing the issue with her. People that havent been around Texas just dont understand why we do somethings

Be respectful, but stand up for yourself and the rest of us (which HOF has done admirably). I just think they need to understand that people who face different circumstances use different solutions. And different doesn't mean wrong. She may be tough, but she is a bit judgmental as well, I sympathize with her plight with her daughter, and respect her taking up the role of caregiver for her grandchild. I just don't like it when people who are strong-willed try to impose that will (or in this case view) on others. Just because she thinks it doesn't make it right.

Or cut off the feeders and stop the food plots. In our area there would be a lot of deer dying of starvation or the few farmers in the area would be shooting them because of destruction of crops. Then they could see what really happens.

Yep, in an effort to improve the numbers and quality you must create artifical enviroments, take that away and watch both drop.

Well to be honest bait and wait is exactlly what it is, a tactic for taking game that has been used by man for hundreds if not thousands of years. Find a food source or create a food source what's the difference? I find it interesting that she claim's the only way to hunt is the way they do it there, yet they use the same tactic's, find a food source and wait or wait in an area that they travel going back and forth to they're food source, water or bedding area's. Then theres alway's the old gather up in small groups and drive a canyon trying to push game into an area where other hunters may get a shot.

True, and I would prefer to scout/track deer on my lease, but, it's not a safe means with other hunters on the lease. So, my only recourse is to hunt from a blind.

I forgot to criticize the bobcat I saw a couple of years ago sitting under my protein feeder waiting for mice to come in...

I think I watched him catch 6 or so... heh...

Everything is bait... water is bait... females are bait... scrapes are bait.. etc etc...

Different scenarios call for different methods...

I seriously doubt any of the people that regularly post on that site are hunters. I could tell after reading a little of her writings that "Ms. Sparky" is just another bitter left coast liberal.

What was so wrong about what she said? She called it exactly what it was. It's bait and wait. I use feeders and blinds all the time. I'm not trying to fool myself into thinking that its real hunting. It's not sporting to shoot a deer under a feeder, but it sure is easy and I'm lazy.

If it's so easy why doesn't everyone who goes out bring home a 180" deer? Why is there a long thread on this site about how bad this season stinks? Sure, it's easier than some methods out there, but as has been said lots of different food sources are used for bait throughout the country, not to mention the other things that are used as bait. Other things wrong that she said...are your deer farm raised? Gentle like cattle? If you go on canned hunts I guess they may be, but for the vast majority of us it's just not so.

You think all deer in Texas are farm raised like she does? WOW

I just went through there and read every post. I am very proud of each and every one of you that posted. Your posts where proper and to the point. I invited her to come to Texas and hunt with me or my wife. I am sure she won't take the offer but I really wish she would. People that aren't from Texas don't understand, they take all the information they're given and let their imaginations run wild. This "lady" knows nothing about hunting in Texas. The only way she will ever understand is to actually do it. She needs to witness the strike of a Rattlesnake, the charge of a Boar Hog, the pain of a Cuatus thorn, and last but not least, the agony of defeat. Sometimes I wish Texas hunting was as easy as Yankee's think, then again, I'm glad it's not.

She would be shocked to find out many of our state parks have to utilitze the same methods in order to keep the deer in check and prevent over population, starvation, and in-breeding. I guess they could just hire an expert sharp shooter to walk around and shoot whatever deer they walk upon and not allow ordinary citizens to hunt and take meat. I am sure when hunting the mountains of the NE the deer see the hunters and start running and they taking running shots at 400 yards. lol... I got my first deer this year stalking (IN TEXAS) only after leaving the blind over looking the feeder that was feeding the dove. Result was me not being able to age the deer really and shot a young spike but still fun and tasted good.

I just got back on here and went and looked at her blog comments. Its pretty entertaining to read all the new comments. People do need to realize though that the only way to change peoples minds like that is to be reasonable and respectful, which some of yall have done great in.

I read some of her posts , and it sounds like the dummy put her camp right in the middle of a elk trail.LOL you cant get to upset about it. If there to stupid to not see theres no differance in feeding a feeder and sitting on a north country trail that leads to a alfalfa field then you just cant help them.Plus the fact of a few hunters hunting private land that your trying to manage.Ill bet shes a demacrat to.
