Don't laugh....(haha)
Needed (well, wanted) another rifle, and decided to play with something in a different price range. Have read rave reviews about the new Marlin XL7. Have shot others' "cheap" guns before, and that's pretty much what they were, but this has been on a different level. I still worry somewhat about the availability of parts in the future, being that Marlin may or may not establish themselves as a quality bolt-action manufacturer in a market that sees them solely as a lever-action leader. I don't think you'll see them selling any $1000 rifles anytime soon, but in their price range, you won't find a better rifle (rephrase...I don't know of one out there). I can easily hold groups under 1" @ 100 yards with little effort (with cheap core lokts nonetheless). Anyway, nothing to brag about as far as bragging rifles go, but I'm very pleased with it as an accurate, light rifle that I can carry on my shoulder all day long. Weight doesn't help the recoil any, but so far, I'm still young, so I'm not too worried about it yet. My $.02
Oh yeah...I chose .270

Custom Remington 700 ADL (converted to a BDL) in .30-06, with a Leupold VX-1 4-12 x40 mm on top. I shoot 125 grain Hornady bullets out of a Remington Core-Lokt case. These are handloads that have been reloaded and fit exact specs for my rifle. When hunting axis or larger game, I shoot 150 grain Remington Core-Lokt ammo.
My dad bought this gun from a pawnshop for me for Christmas about 4 years ago. I bought a Boyd's Thumbhole laminated stock, sanded it down, tung oil finished, and put a recoil pad on the butt. Had the stock glassed and the barrel floated by a friend of my dad. Ordered the box and flip down plate from Remington and added to the stock.
The best gun I have ever owned, and will ever own, strictly because of where it came from and the work I put into it. I will never sell this rifle. Too much invested and too much nostalgia.

He was actually pretty mature. We estimated him at 4.5. He's a hill country buck.

Remington 700 Sendero in 25-06 with Federal Premium 115gr.NP
I've owned a few guns in my life and this is hands down one of my favorites. With a bit of custom work it shoots < 1/2" groups at 100yds consistently in 3 shot groups.
