HERE ARE A COUPLE OF HOGS I KILLED THIS PAST WEEK AND THERE SEEMS TO BE SOME SUSPICION FROM OTHER PEOPLE ON THE LEASE THAT THESE COULD BE EITHER JAVELINA OR SOME SORT OF HALF BREED JAVELINA MIX!

I HAVE SEEN QUITE A FEW JAVELINA IN THE PAST, BUT THEY ALL LOOKED VERY DIFFERENT THAN THESE! IN MY OPINION THEY LOOK LIKE 100% GOOD OLE FERAL HOGS! ALL THE JAVIS I HAVE EVER SEEN ARE A DARK GREYISH BLACK COLOR!


WHAT DO YOU THINK????? CAN JAVELINA AND FERAL PIGS EVEN CROSS BREED????

THE ONE IN QUESTION IN THIS PICTURE IS THE BIGGER ONE!

There are lots of differences---the biggest i see is a visible tale!!!! javelina are sort of hidden...and if you open the mouth -javelina have canines---hogs have tusks!!!

In your other post I was thinking Jav. before I even saw this post. The 1 your holding up sure does look like a Jav.

Feral Hogs

This what every Javi I have ever seen looked like.

One thing that really stands out to me on the Javi is the short legs and small ears! I have also never seen one over 50 pounds and the pig I am holding is every bit of 75+. Someone else brought up a good point about the tail and if you look at the other picture of the grey pig in my other thread you will see the long tail.

Just a plain ole hog, but it does seem to have a sport model paint job.

Who is the louder eater? Hog or javi? One came in right at dark the other night and chomping away on the corn we layed out. Very loud eater. Didn't care I was making all kinds of racket. Walked up to it but was too dark to tell. This was javi country but plenty of hogs to. They said probably hog since javi come in multiples.

I'm pretty sure they are two different species. A javi and a pig cross breading would be like a cat and dog breeding.

Definitely looks all hog to me, but the color must be throwing others off a bit. Other than the general look, no collar, and a javi would have a musk gland on its back. The smell by itself would let you know. As others have said, a cross / hybrid is not possible.
