Have help a number of ladies over the years learn to shoot a rifle....need to be careful an make sure you dont over gun her. If you do she may never go again. I have seen it happen too many times... would start her out with 223, 243, 22-250, as poster said be careful with scope. It only takes one time...

That .308 will work just fine for deer or hog. And most of them are very accurate.IMO

.223 as long as you work with her on proper shot placement.. Good Luck!

Of the guns you listed I would go with the 308 with the muzzle break!

My girlfriend decided she wants to go hunting with me. Needless to say I was pumped. Now I need to decide what gun would be best for her to use out of what I already have. We'll be hunting hogs after deer season.
Rem 700 VTR w/muzzle break .308 Rem 700 BDL 30-06 Marlin 336S.C. in 35 Rem AR-15 .223 w/bull barrell
What do yall think? I want her to be comfortable with it but shes a tough one anyways. Out of the ones listed I would choose the 30-06 and use the Reduced recoil rounds by Remington. Deadly bullet with recoil of 243. Plus they should be real close to bullseye if you are currently using 150gr core lokts

The .35 Remington kicks less than the .308, doesn't it? Edit: Ah, I love the internet! Here's a recoil chart showing that it does, indeed, kick less, but not by much. Chuck Hawks Recoil Chart

AR15 in 223 or AR10 in 308. 18" barrel will be very manageable and a gun you will probably want to shoot as well.

A few trips to the range w/ the .308, AR and .35. Don't forget a box of shells for each and a few targets. This will help you and her decide on what she'll do best w/.
The AR might be too loud. Why my son doesn't care for it. He'd rather shoot the 6MM, .22-250, .270, 12ga and so on instead. I think when he gets older he'll learn to enjoy the AR much more than now.

Just how big and ole gal is she???JK 308 is my vote. LOL I was waiting for that. Shes small and 19. Forgot to add that the shots will be under 100 yards (hard to see much further in the tick pines. j/k of course ..... .243 should be about perfect I'd think.

Let her decide. Start her with the AR then go to the .35 then the .308 and finally the .06. If she gets to a jumping off spot stop there. Help her understand the difference in all and what to expect. good answer My wife hate the AR with a passion, too jumpy for her, but ended up "stealing" my hvy brl .308 as her favorite. She loves to shoot it, and that gets her in the field more for range time and hunting. Good luck, and have fun

My wife is very effective with a heavy 308, a muzzle brake, and some 175 SMK's. Recoil is mild, so she practices and is confident when it is time to shoot. Here is a cull she shot this year.

Can say its for her, but deep down inside, you know you just bought yourself a new rifle to use. That is the reasoning I use....seems to work pretty good.

Congratulations on finding someone that wants to go hunting with you! I'm in the same boat at this time w/ my wife. If you can borrow one from a friend, try her on a .243 and 7mm08. Out of the guns listed, I'd go w/ the .308 but take her to the range so she has some say in the decision. Especially since SHE will be the one shooting it.(trust me the girls like it when they get to participate in the decision-making!) Other guys here have used the .308 w/ lighter rounds for their kids until they are ready for the full heavier hitting loads. If she's never shot before, get a bolt action .22 w/ scope and have her get proficient with that before trying her on your deer guns. It'll give her confidence in her shooting abilities and she's already familiar with the action. Find out if she is left or right eye dominant. This is important to know. My wife is one of the rare exceptions in that she is right handed and left eye dominant. This is a major issue I am having to work with her on in addition to teaching her the fundamentals of shooting. I also second the recommendation on eye relief, I didn't learn that from my dad as a kid and got lucky that all I had was a couple of gashes when I moved up from a .22 to .30-30.

I would let her try the .308 since it has a muzzle brake.
someone else mentioned that you can buy Managed Recoil loads in 30-06, but personally I wouldn't want to have to re-sight my rifle in if I had it shooting like I wanted.
Hold your gun straight, and turn your cell phone sideways... when shooting video.

Her brother has a 243 and all of us are going out to some land to shoot. She has shot her brothers 243 before and she likes shooting my 357 mag rossi revolver and my baby eagle in 40. So I'm taking all my guns on the outing so she will have lots of guns to try out. I plan on getting her one sometime after Christmas.

I would hope she could shoot a sniper rifle with enough acuracy to hit a deer size target. J/k what set-up are/is you/she running there ?
