i've owned mossberg 500, two 870's, an 1100 and a over/under made in spain.

i've liked them all, currently i shoot a wingmaster, it shoots good and I like the gun. i don't duck hunt, but its fine for dove/quail/anything else i can shoot with ah shotgun.

one 870 was a express and it did seem to rust a bit easily, but my wingmaster is fine

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Why no love for O/U guns?

What about a Stoeger Condor for about $500?

870 or BPS... BPS is a little slicker action but cost a little more also.

Another good option is the Winchester 1300(black). Mine shoots smooth and every time I pull the trigger. Yes it gets plenty of abuse in the bottom of my kayak, but keeps on working.

A buddy of mine was looking last year at a 12 ga. Remington 1100 that was camo and I think that it around $500 at Academy. Very good gun for most hunting.

I will put in my $0.02. I have a BPS and it is rock solid. The 870 is a good gun for the dollars. If you do go with the 870 if you wipe it down after the hunt to keep the H2O off of it the rusting issue is minimal.
