About to lease my property for grazing. It's a small place, but will probably have 10 head running around on it. It currently has none.
For those of you that have cattle where you hunt - do cows run the deer off? Have you noticed any interaction?

I shot a buck yesterday, about 40 yards from 40-50 cows. They will get use to it.

no they dont run off deer....most they do is maybe ruin a shot cause you dont want to shoot a cow while shooting at a deer , other than that they dont bother nothing but your feeder......

we see a lot of deer mixed in with cows. The cows don't seem to bother them..us driving by with tractors/trucks/atvs doesn't either.

Once they get used to them, it will be fine, there may be an adjustment period of a couple of weeks though

Not big (40 acres). Not going to be many head, and I'll probably throw hog panels up around my feeders.

yeah, cows on our place are a pain. They will destroy a feeder and I have never had much luck when they are around my hunting spots!

Our deer don't like to hang out very close to cattle.
My wife's only thing is it can't stare at her when she is eating or sleeping!

I watched 4 cows agressivly eating corn at the feeder...and a nice 8 point strolled up at about 150yds(on the other side of the fence).... he watched the cows for several minutes, then turned tail and left........ I think they may intimidate the deer...

I'm going to fence the cows out of the small area I have set for hunting. I'm fully away that they destroy feeders.

I know I've seen the deer snort and run off when the cows approach a feeder.

Cows definitely affect deer. Deer will not come out and eat alongside a cow. But, the cows will not actively run deer off. I've watched numerous times a deer eating corn in a sendero, a cow comes out, deer goes into brush, then after the cow passes, the deer is right back out.
If the cows are moving through, deer will come back out shortly. If the cows are camping out at your stand, you won't see much.

Well, the neighbor is much larger (2500 acres) and he has a ton of cattle on his land, so I don't think they'd be entirely shocked by them. I do feel that I'm probably currently getting a disproportionate share of deer on my place given the lack of cattle compared to the surrounding land. They're definitely using it as a bedding area at present and may not once the cows are there.

We had cows in one of our back pastures, and during bow season I had a young 8 point come into the feeder. Like a damn train, 2 cows came RUNNING down the hill at the buck and ran him off. They proceeded to walk right to where he was standing at the edge of the trees and moo and make a ton of noise for about 5 minutes making sure that he wasnt coming back before working their way back up the hill to where they were before his brief appearance.
Later that week we moved all the cows out of that pasture and put them up front where no one was hunting. Haven't had any problems since. Saw deer at that feeder last weekend even...

We have problems with some neighboring Longhorns. They keep getting on our 600 acres through the Cibolo Creek where the fencing gets washed out.
We still had sightings about a week after opening day. Found a cow patty 5 feet from my blind, but it was pretty dry.
I know in the past that the lease manager had to hire a guy with dogs to round them all up. They sure play heck on the feeders... Next time I heard he was just going to sponsor a lease member BBQ. Cheaper and easier than chasing them around...
