I was just wondering how I would handle this situation if it were to come up at my lease. Here is the scenario; You hunt next to another lease that feeds high protein year around and the owner of the other property asks that you only harvest 5.5 year old Bucks / Culls (any age) and older does. They are very strict about what gets shot. The owner has also asked you to move your blinds away from the fence line some 1000 feet. If you don't get with their program about what deer get taken your smaller property that doesn't have any ground water gets high fenced on all 4 sides. What would be your response?

One last question; Has this actually ever happened to anybody on the forum?

They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason! nidea

333 yards? Sounds safe to me, especially if you don't know the locations of the stands on their place. As far as him telling you what you can shoot, well that is a bit pushy. I think I would drill a well, and tell him to fence away...it's his money.

x2 or up the price per acre by 10 fold and say she's for sale

Depends on how large an area you have and where ,Leave the gate open for starters, Few areas can get by on plant moisture, and stock, if any will be first to die off then you have him, other than that add a guzzler, haul few hundred an rain dance, But if quality is already up there ,humm close the gate, an haul more,

Hopefully you are shooting mature bucks already...

As far as threats they dont help anyone but I guess he is free to fence whatever he wants.

Tell him you thought about it and will join his program. Shoot whatever you want and tell him nothing about it. Sounds like he needs to mind his own business. There is nothing wrong with a management program, but if you never kill a deer your lease is not worth the money you paid for it.

he couldn't get away with it if you were willing to pay a lawyer.

Otherwise, smile and shoot nothing but wall hangers.... ,!,,

I'm curious...why would he not be able to get away with it if a lawyer was involved? I don't think there are any statutes that prevent one from High Fencing...and unfortunately there are none preventing one from being a schmuck. Which he would be if he followed through on his threat, but I don't think legal action would prevent him.

Sounds like an easy way to get a high fence around your place and start your own program...IMO

hes just talking chit. Tell him to stick it where the sun dont shine and take advantage of shooting some of his well fed deer!!! As far as the blind thing I think thats retarded. If you dont have a your blinds stacked up on his fence I wouldnt worry about it.. In fact that might have been the part I would have come close to swinging at him!! High fences cost big money I dont see him just fencing off three sides just to stop you from shooting what you want..

I would agree with everything except where to place the blinds. Then I would shoot whatever I want and say "Oops, sorry wrong one!". I sure would try to not let him know what I was shooting.

Hell let him pay the big bucks to grow the big bucks and just enjoy the benefits. There is nothing wrong with shooting mature deer. Even if you are a meat hunter. Usually older deer will have more meat. The stand location should be none of his business. But I hate seeing stands on fences.

Screw him, let him fence you in on all sides. Build a stock tank (1 weekend with backhoe) and have a bunch of gate issues (I assuming if he can block you in a 4 sides you would have a right of way to your land via his).

I don't understand how he could high-fence you on all 4 sides?

I could potentially be in that situation, so I'll spell it out for those of you that are having a tough time imagining the scenario:

I have 40 acres that is surrounded on 3 sides by a 2500-acre tract. There are tons of deer in the area, but just by the layout of the land, I would guess 95% of them would enter my land through the big neighbor. The 4th side, the one that's not the 1 big neighbor, is just fields and doesn't have any land that would hold deer. If the big guy HF'd me in, I would almost certainly see a vast decrease in deer on my land. I'm sure some would still make it, but they'd have to cross a mile or so of fields to do so.

So I could get really bent over by pissing off my big neighbor. I'm always mindful of this, so when he's running his dogs or driving his truck near the fenceline, I don't even think about raising the issue. I stand to lose a whole lot more than he does if he ever does put up a HF.

He can do what he wants (since this is just a what if), but i don't agree with the 5.5 year old culls and does. A cull is a cull and I don't want it making it to that age to breed numerous does(i take em when i know its a cull). I shoot does of all ages as well. I also give consideration to harvesting a 4.5 year old trophy, so i would discuss this with him.

If he was to high fence the place, you will more than likely need to move the stands off the fence-line. Not a lot of deer travel fence lines on high fence properties. So you would need to move them either way! And if you don't have water, you need it.

That won't do a thing....

Interesting story: So my buddy has a friend that owns 100 acres in south texas. So this friend has an ahole brother that likes to go down there an shoot the place up drinking with his buddies.

This property is in the middle of a 6500 acre ranch, with an easement to get to the wells on said property, and for us to gain access.

We used to go down there and have a great time, see all kinds of really nice bucks and wildlife. Good times.

So, one year one of the surrounding owners states that if so and so comes down shooting the place up again, he will high fence the place. Yep, buddies brother goes down and says f you, and comences to party for a week.

Two months later, three sides are up. 6 months later, the other is up. The next season we venture down there for a look see. Its not pretty, sure, there are a few deer there, but more hogs than anything.

Needless to say, its not worth the drive down there anymore. I feel for the owner, he had a great place, but now its pretty much empty land..

Good luck in whatever you do, but remember, its his land, and he can pretty much do what he wants with it.

tax depreciation.

Know several people that have been fenced in. Some not to happy about it some loved it. Usually the smaller guy was pissed and the larger guys just happy they didn't have to worry about losing their cattle anymore
