Just wanted to pass on a fyi for those who are thinking about a knife from Stic.

In short, DO IT. Rating A+++

Longer review -

Stic makes an extremely high quality knife - and I'm talking about one to actually use, not put up on a shelf.

I already had three different custom knives. All were very good, but none of them wowed me with their performance. Stic's have the "wow" factor in using them that I have been looking for.

Stic's blades take a very sharp edge and hold it. After skinning, gutting, and quartering two deer, it is just as sharp as when I started - no "touch up" or further sharpening so far.

He knows how to work the old saw blade steel and these hold an edge far better than my other customs which are made of 154CM, SV30, and D2. In fair disclosure, I put on a bit more aggressive angle on the edge than what Stic shipped them with, but that is just my preference. His edge was sharp to start.

So, thank you for superior workmanship Stic, and thank you Ms. Stic for a very functional and easy to use sheath, which is also quite nice looking.

Bottom line, irrespective of price, Stic's knives are the best performing knives I've used. Considering the price and turnaround time, they are phenomenal buys.

I've gutted, skinned, and quartered three pigs and a doe with mine. I still managed to slice my finger open when I cleaned the blade up after I used it last Sunday on the doe I killed.

Damn fine knives indeed!

In response to a PM, I have no connection to Stic in any way, shape or form.

My experience was good and I just wanted to share what in my experience is a very good product and a great value. If someone else is not happy, don't complain to me, I cannot do anything about your experience. If you are not happy, talk to Stic about it. He seems like a heads up guy.

Yes, as noted, I changed the blade angle on my two knives right off the get go before I ever took them in the field, and yes, I am still very happy with the product.

To me the value of public boards is objective feedback, good and bad.

I still say thank you Stic.

Jeff,
I like you am awed of what Stic can do with a piece of metal that most people would have thrown away, and some tough old leather. The first I got was a Deer antler handle that was made out of an old long spring knife, and had the "pan" to the trap on the butt end of the handle...VERY sharp, and BEAUTIFUL. That one is a great knife. It didn't exactly fit my skinning standards though, so I asked him if he had something smaller without a guthook. Long story shorter, he just happened to be working on one like that and has a NEW STAIN he is going to use on it...I CAN'T WAIT...STIC if you read this, go ahead and post pics so we can all see how beautiful it is!!

Thanks guys. If anyone does not like there knife send it back and I will make another to replace it. If it was something I did wrong. I have always stated that i make knives as a hobby and just someone who loves making knives. And someone who knows what it is not to have alot of money to spend on a hand made knife. I also got a Pm awhile back. I told them to send it back and they never got back to me again or sent the knife back. As for sharp...Ii never could sharpen a knife very well. But as of late i have gotten alot better. I like a beefy edge seems to work for me. but I have learned something 'one mans sharp may be another mans dull.LOL<><

All the knives and hatchet sets I've gotten from him have been fantastic. Very sharp and hold an edge well. I used the hatchet to chop off a bucks head last week-end for a friend who forgot his saw.

I just got a STIC as part of a trade. It is very cool looking and I was pleased when I got it. I used to work at a knife store so I am hard to impress and I can pretty much sharpen anything.
This knife is quite possibly the sharpest knife I have ever seen. After a few passes on my ceramic rods I stopped as I was getting a little scared. Wow. I was thinking of selling it but I plan on putting it up and looking for more. Good work and thanks.

Interesting to see this thread surface a year later. Since it has, I'll add an update for what it's worth.

Prior to receiving the STIC's, I had four other custom knives that I used off and on, some for 30 years and was very happy with them.

When I received the STIC's, they were sharp, but I put the knives on a paperwheel and changed the angle on the edge just a bit to one that was a finer edge which I preferred.

When I finished, the edge would easily shave hair off my arm with a light touch.

Since then, I have cleaned five to six deer and a couple of pigs, maybe more, with the Loveless drop point (the top one with the light colored handle), and two with the bottom one. I forget the style, Nessamuk, or something similar. I do not use a saw to cut off legs or other parts, but use the knife to cut joints and then just twist them off, skin and quarter. The knives are not as shiny as when new, and have some scuffs and scratches from real use, drops in the dirt, sitting in water in ice chests - bottom line, they are really used, not babied.

They hold an edge far better than any other I have ever used. It is important to keep in mind that the other side of this kind of steel performance is that harder steel is just that - much harder and thus much harder to sharpen. If you are used to using soft stainless steels that most knives have on them today, the soft steels are much easier to sharpen but they lose the edge quickly too. Sharpening these will take a bit more pressure and experience than a soft steel.

I have yet to sharpen either since my first sharpening.

Bottom line - STIC makes an exceptional quality knife, which is also an outstanding value. Since I used the STIC for the first time, every other knife has sat on the shelf and will stay there. These are the sharpest I have ever used and far and away my go to choice.

Thanks STIC, keep up the good work.
