It's always fun to look at pictures of deer, but even better when they are unique like that one.

Really cool! I just hope the hunter who harvests him spends the money and gets him full-body mounted. It would be a shame not to.

the are the most common in hays, blanco and comal counties. my buddy had a black fawn (could't tell if it was a buck or doe) living in his neighbor hood in bulverde. it got hit by a car when it was only about 6 months old.

kinda neat to see though.

i've seen piebald and menalistic....now i need to see a albino for my trifecta

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Hays County has always been known to have that genetic trait. When I was in college at SWT i knew two people that had shot melanistic bucks and had them mounted..very cool.

Have you seen this deer this year? We didn't see him this past summer he left during december of 08. Saw 1 dead on the side of the road but he was to young.

My FIL shot one more than 30 years ago near Buda. It's mounted and hanging on his mantle. They seem to be present in Hayes county more than anyplace else.

Have a couple on my place in Hays county. Until I saw the date of this post I thought this guy was trespassing. Did not see the 8 this year but I had watched him since 2010 as a spike. I saw a bunch in Comal county as well and white one's to. Had a shot at a white one but I was young and had never seen one so I didn't know if I could shoot it. When I got permission I never saw him again.

Wow, someone replied to an old thread of mine. Here is the last picture that was taken of him in 2009. The past two years I've been watching a melanistic doe grow, she should have fawns this year so we'll see what she produces.

Even though I have some on my place I don't think I could shoot one.
