Well guys, we have acquired a great piece of land that will be perfect for a piano blind that will accommodate 6-7 guys.

Here are some ideas of what I am thinking:

And for fun:

I will be posting framing plans and more detail drawings, once I get to work on them tomorrow or Wednesday. After the plans are finalized, if some people are interested in the build, I will post progress photos of the build.

Sorry about the shameless plug, ( My Company Logo)

Thanks,
Cole M.

You'll find that you'll need a vertical roof support in the center. Your entry doors should swing out towards the water or shooting area. You might want to have at least one dawg door in the front that allows easy exit and access for retrieves. Cross braces between the front studs also serve as a handy shelf for ammo, coffee, etc. Drill two 5/16" holes on a cross piece in front of each shooter and then insert wooden dowels to serve as barrel holders. When you actually set the blind in place, have it pitched very slightly forwaed and to one end so that all of the water from hunters and dawgs runs forward and to one end. Drill 3/4" drain holes in the floor between the stud and close to the front wall to help quickly drain run off. Be sure to paint inside the hole to minimize rotting.

Cappy ... At my side for thirteen years, in my heart forever.

Here is a pic of the inside of my big blind...

Only problem is 5 years later the elements have taken it...and I have to tear it down and start over...

A hay bail blind might be good way to go. Look at these pics, this one had wheels on it, so you could move it. Stony at Miller Creek Ranch made this one, it was a cool blind.

I totally agree. Without any natural vegetation in the area you are going to really stick out. A pit or layout blind would work best. I used to have a lease on a 20 plus acre lake in Waco with limited vegetation and the ducks would constantly flare even though the blind was heavily camoed and well off the water.

What about some windows in the top? I hate not being able to see all the way around, but I suppose it depends and the place you're hunting too. Just my .02

I've only hunted from an actual stationary a few times. The thing I really don't like is you can hunt the same place over and over but the best place to set up each time can really just depend on the conditions of the day.

I'm a big fan of layout blinds because you can pretty much just set up anywhere with them.

The fixed blinds I have hunted out of are normally set up where you can really shoot 360 degrees and water is on all sides. So maybe setting up a fixed blind on an island might be a decent strategy.

Why have the front fold down some? Is it necessary?

Looks good, but I'd probably hinge the dog door at the bottom, so it drops forward...just a thought.

First of all, great drawings. Regarding the dog door, my dog always hunts on my left side so I do my best to make sure she has a straight line view and exit at least for the start of the retrieve. In that regard I'd suggest putting the dog door on the left side of the blind unless you're left handed and shoot from the right side of the blind to take advantage of the extra swing. In a perfect world it is usually better to have southpaws on the right side of the blind and right handed shooters on the left.

In the past I've found that when guests bring their dogs and they haven't had a chance to train on either going out a left side door the dogs are at a big disadvantage as they are used to a straight run and can view the mark and the fall. As long as your dog does not break, she will not flair ducks. Also another good reason to leave the dog on the left is that when the blind is all toasty warm you don't want your dog to get water in all your buddies’ hot chocolate when she shakes...

Thank you for the compliment on the drawings.

I agree with the dog door and will make the changes to the plans.

Thanks,
Cole M.
