I have a new 6.5 Creedmoor coming in and looking for some opitx help.

My shooting has been upto 300 yards to this point. Can someone point me in the right direction for a good scope and would not break the bank. Wanting to try to get to 1000 yards (not sure if I can do it but going to give it a try) Will be taking Firemans class soon I hope.

Cheapest route to get all the features they will tell you you need is a Vortex Viper PST FFP MRAD reticle in 4-16 or 6-24. I plan to do the same thing and that was the most affordable FFP scope with all the features they said I needed. If you go SFP and MOA then there are a lot of options.

Been doing a lot of research. Everybody has a different definition of "doeant break the bank". For me, that's sub $500. The only 2 scopes in that price range I've found that seem to be good for the money are the swfa SS fixed power scopes and the falcon menace scopes. Both are mil/mil and the menace is a variable power first focal plane.

Don't worry, several will be along momentarily that will completely ignore this part and suggest some $2500 scopes for you. sick

You don't need ffp in a 1000yd scope. If just target shooting at known distances then sfp is more than sufficient.

shooting a thousand yards, and "not breaking the bank" are two statements that should not go together in the same sentence.

Under $1k will be SS, Vortex Viper, and some of the Bushy Elites.

DONT GO WITH MOA! For the love of God!

Why 1000 yards?

Do you have a place where you can shoot that far. I only know of one in the area and its 1 hour south of Dow

My point is you should buy a scope for what you are realistically going to shoot. Along that front I would go pst 4-16. It will be harder at 1000 but easy to use on shorter distances

I do have a place out west that I can get 1000+ yards my local shooting I can do 500.

I do understand buying a scope for what I would shoot most often but would like to have what would be needed when I could shoot 1000 yards.

All this being said I might not even be able to hit 1000 but would like to know it is because of my shooting not because of the equipment.

I have the 4-16 PST and like it fine, but I'm not a long distance shooter. If I was, I'd take the 6-24 PST over the 4-16.

Because it's a long damn ways, and it is a benchmark.

It was my benchmark, hit that many times over. Moved the benchmark to a mile, hit that several times. Now my benchmark is 2000 yards.

Truth is, once you learn what is needed to repeatedly hit 500 yards +, increasing distance is no more than an exercise is factoring in environmental conditions and reading signs of wind.

We have several places here in dfw where you can shoot long range.

Etts, jacobs plain gun club, and tacpro give you access in three of the four corners of dfw.

Is there any reason the fixed-power SWFA scopes won't work for you? You don't have to spend a ton if it's a dedicated target shooting rifle that won't be hunted with. Crazy about of features for $300.

If you really want variable power, the SWFA SS 3-15x42 FFP should be considered as well at $700 new. The Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP is $200 more, and the 6-24x50 FFP is $250 more. If FFP isn't important (and it may not be), then the Vortex 6-24x50 SFP might be the ticket at $750.

The fixed powers can definitely do the job. I have no trouble with 10X top end power scopes getting to 1000
But they are very reliable scopes that dial correctly and are on accurate rifles with decent ammo..... it takes those things plus a half arse shooter and nothing to it.

Unless the wind is blowing and gusting..... Then I just call in a Napalm strike.
