Am I crazy or is there enough room to load a 200 or 220 grain round nose bullet in a 308?
It ain't easy being me.

I have seen a few folks load the 208 grain ELD in .308 at around 2550 fps.

Yes, as a subsonic. The 200-220 make a great subsonic bullet. The velocity from a 308 will be low, and the bullet will not expand much. But penetration would be HUGE!

Use trail boss load the 220 but only if you have a 10 twist barrel.

I have used the 200 grain Partition in my 308 and could push it a bit over 2500 fps in a 22 inch barrel. It did expand and make two holes in everything shot with it. Seemed a pretty good thumper of a load.

Yes, as a subsonic. The 200-220 make a great subsonic bullet. The velocity from a 308 will be low, and the bullet will not expand much. But penetration would be HUGE! Not sure if it is right or not, but I read that the hornady 220 grain round noses were designed with 30-06/308 in mind and are realatively soft bullets. I loaded them in my 300 wby and they were absolutely explosive on game, several did not exit on 150 lb size hogs. They did create massive complete and utter destruction on the inside though, was like a bomb went off. I would assume at 308 velocities they may perform well.
It's hell eatin em live

Powder recommendation? Not seeing a lot of load data for the 308 with 220 Hornady. Finally got around to ordering some 220s and plan on picking up a pound of powder this weekend. I'm assuming The Varget I have will not suffice. Maybe trail boss but looking for a little more fps at this point. 2100-2300 would be nice. My barrel is a 20" 1 in10 savage that is threaded for the day I join the suppressor family.

Might need to check the clearance in the throat of the rifle, too.

I load these for my sps 20" barrel. I was hesitant at first, but I had them on hand for the 300 blackout. So I tried them with varget and get 2150 fps. I sighted in at 150 yards and they grouped sub moa. They work great on hogs. Only problem, they drop like a rock.

I dont like to give exact numbers for safety reasons. I looked at 208 amax as a starting point from hodgdon's website and hornady's handbook. Hornady starts at 35 and hodgdon at 38. Then I worked up.
