Anyone have any feedback on trek or any other composite decking for longevity?

Trex makes some amazing products.
I have not been in the decking industry for some time but when I exited Trex was near the top and I hear they have only gotten better. Trex tropics was always a favorite of mine, had a PVC outer layer that was colorfast and did not deteriorate like others. Premier was another brand that was good as was Timbertech.
Composite decking is not created equal, many are soft, prone to scratches and dings and will fade in sunlight. I have painted a lot of faded composite decks. Others are prone to mold and mildew.
Really talk to a professional about decking choice. IMO a high quality composite is the only way to go. Natural wood fades, warps, twists, has to be stained and sealed yearly, etc.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

People will have different feedbacks depending on factors like climate, maintenance, and installation,
ensuring proper installation and regular maintenance can significantly impact the lifespan of composite decking. Consider factors like UV protection, warranty coverage, and material composition when making your decision.

How old is your fishing deck if you don't mind me asking, if it's used/old enough would applying that save it from further damage?

Our POA learned the hard way that proper installation is critical and very unforgiving when done wrong.

Just don't plan on anybody wearing bare feet in the summer or you will lose some skin. Too hot around here to be useful in the summer.

Great stuff. Very slippery in snow up here in CO. We built a big deck with stairs on both sides. Added some nice aluminum tread plates to every step for traction. That deck gets a ton of sun and snow and still looks brand new 3 years later.

One of my best friends did a huge wrap around deck on the second story of his home with it 20 years ago. Cost a pretty penny to build even back then, but it still looks as good todays as when he built it. Amazing stuff.

Cow_doc,
If you are asking me. My dock is only 2 years old and several of the top boards are warped and twisted and pulled up. Im hoping i can replace the wood boards with the trex boards and keep the frame in tact.
My experience with Trex is for a patio deck and was great. I may find out the fishing dock idea didnt work…but im going to try!

Trex is a great product and worth the money but as was said before, proper installation and especially fastening is very important. If I was guessing your substructure is on 2’ centers and trex has a max span of 16” between joists.

Very pleased with this stuff when we had it installed years ago. Light years ahead of any wood product including heart redwood.

We have outdoor furniture made out of this stuff. It's held up very well, holds screws far better than wood.
