I’ve been running a 300blk for my run around pig gun, but I keep convincing myself it doesn’t have enough energy to be effective. However, the 5 or so pigs I’ve shot with supersonic rounds have dropped where they were standing.

I jumped into the SFAR .308 but it sure wasn’t as handy as the shorty 300.

6.5 Grendel offers 500 more ft pounds of energy, but I haven’t lost a pig yet.

A 200, or 220 at about 1300-1400 is almost 44 mag territory I would not be afraid to shoot pigs with them at all.
I don’t own a 300 black out but have been considering doing a pistol length ar in it. Probably shoot exclusively heavy bullets.

I’ve killed plenty with a 300 blackout. I’ve also lost several pigs so take that for what it’s worth too.

Current school of through is 110 or 120gr bullets as fast as possible seems to be the most effective.

Mainly wondering if it would be noticeably different to jump in a 6.5grendel, or realistically need a .308 to see a significant difference.

6.5 Grendel running 123gr sst's for me. Tons of pigs one shot kills, none made it more than a few yards, never needed a follow up shot.
Almost 50% more energy than 300bo.

Only ones that got away using BO were MISSED. Not the guns fault either. One was with 10" pistol using SeeAll sight (useless). Changed to RD on the pistol and use it as carry at the ranch on the ATV.

I couldn't even put a number on the deer and pigs I've killed with a 300BO. Maybe 50-60. Never lost one and I shoot Barnes 110G Tac-TX

I’ve long since lost count of the pigs I’ve zapped with supersonic 110 gr tac-x or ttsx bullets. I can’t recall losing any where I was reasonably confident of my sight picture. Of course, I’ve blasted away at scattered sounders, but even there I’ve had excellent results.

I use 110vmax and have never lost a pig when I do my part. Don’t use subs to hunt, it’s not what the round was designed for, the 300blk round was designed to replace MP5’s pistol sub gun with a rifle caliber that could still be super quiet in close quarters on soft human targets not hard targets like feral pigs.

The group I hunt with (myself included) has taken hundreds of hogs with the 300 BLK. Once caveat is all shots were under 70 yards and 90% of them were taken with 10" (or so) barrels. As long as we ran either the Hornady 135gr FTX or the Barnes 110 tipped bullet it was rare to have them run far and I don't believe any were lost. I was less impressed with the 125gr SST but last May a friend did great work with it in his 10" BLK.

One of our guys decided to try subsonics. He had a terrible recovery rate. Never again. A couple of us tried 6.5 Grendels with 123gr SST's. I would put it on par with the BLK. A couple guys have been using 308's with 150gr SST's and they are getting instant knockdowns without CNS shots... at least most of the time. I've been shooting the 300 Ham'r for a couple years and am very happy with it.

My conclusion is the 300 BLK with proper bullets is as good as the rest as long as the hog is under 200 lbs and the range is under 100 yards. It's pretty remarkable
that the BLK works so well with short barrels.

Of course the other goal is to prevent them from running into the deep brush before they die. Except for CNS shots, that is mostly the domain of the 300 Ham'r and 308 so far.

"Group think" is not thinking. It is the lack of independent thought. It is a cancer of the mind.

I put an 300blk upper with night vision on one of my ARs for a dedicated pig hunting rifle. The only round I have ever used with it is Federal Power Shok 1900 mv with 150grn soft points. Most killed at exactly 50 yards, none more than 75. I have only killed somewhere between 20 - 30 hogs with it so far. I have not lost a hog yet, but most were either off a bench or rail or standing shots off a tripod, so always great shot placement.
