I have a Rossi 30/30 that has a gnarly jam I can't clear. The gun has never cycled well, even out of the box, and the first time I shoot it after getting it back from a gunsmith it jams and loads a live round behind the loading port, locking the spent shell in the chamber. I hate this gun, but since I can't exactly throw it away I might as well try and get a gunsmith to get it running. Anyone have a recommendation for a gunsmith in W Houston that works on lever guns?
Thanks in advance

Call Briley, if they don't work on rifles they will know someone who does

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Rossi is a sad excuse for a functional gun.

New Rossis over the last three or so years since they retooled in a new factory, are pretty dang nice. So are the originals from the 1970's and 1980's before BrazTech and Taurus. Only the 20 years in between had major issues. dead_horse

This one sure is. I've never had a less reliable gun. I've probably only shot 10 rounds through it over the last 5 years bc it's always jammed or wont cycle. Sent it back to Rossi to fix initially, they fixed one issue, then the rest came. I really want a 3030 and figure if I can spend a few hundred getting it running it'll be cheaper than buying a new one... if not, look out for it being sold as scrap in a few months hammer

I have a Rossi 92 that I bought in 2012 I believe. It was a bit rough from the factory. (I fixed that with some 1000 grit sandpaper and some fine stones and new springs) but it's never not functioned. Maybe I just got lucky?

Not lucky. 2012 wasn't in the best time frame but that doesn't mean they were all trash. Not much different than people thinking a JM stamp makes a Marlin good. It doesn't. I don't buy Marlins after about 1998-2000 even though they didn't sell out to Remington until 2010 or so. They were on the downhill slide and fast, but JM stamps mean more than they should due to incorrect internet repeated crap.

Pass the gravy.

Now even a remlin can fetch a premium price. Especially with a short barrel. Ever since Rip Wheeler killed a grizzly with a levergun the popularity has skyrocketed. And the price.

I don’t know if that is the thing that did it but that is what the last guy told me, that tried to buy mine. I told him its a remlin. He said he don’t care lol.

Anything lever action is probably worth hanging on to and fixing. At least for now, might change who knows. All i know is a Marlin 30/30 was one of the cheapest deer rifles you could get at one point.

Had a Ruger/Marlin 1895 GBL 45-70 kind of fall into my lap. I set the hook on that catch like a frog on a June bug.
