I changed things up this year. I still planted my standard 50 lbs wheat and 50 lbs oats per acre. I plant about a 10 acre field, and 3, 1 acre plots. But this year on the bigger field, I used a fertilizer the feed store calls it “ coastal mix “. It is 22 6 12. Also I didn’t drag it with the harrow, instead I used a big roller after plowing and putting out fertilizer. Then drilled the seed. Of course I know we had great rains in October, but the grain has don OUTSTANDING. The 3 small plots, I couldn’t get the fertilizer buggy in, so I bought bagged 13 13 13 and applied it at the same rate as big field. About 250 lbs to the acre. The small plots didn’t do near what big field has done. Attaching a pic, and you can see it is up above my knees. [Linked Image]

The plot looks goof, but is it being utilized by deer? I don't see many chewed on pieces in the pic.

My plots are not near that big but they never get that tall until spring green up

I don't envy the cost of the fertilizer at that rate...had to be an expensive fertilizer bill...but it looks to be working

I turned my cows in Dec. 1st. 9 cows, a bull and 2 calves have hardly put dent in it. Saving me on hay since I turned them in, from a round bale every 6 days, but with over a 1/2” rain this morning, I pulled them out for the weekend, also regulate their bowels a little. Most deer activity is is around the outside edges, just inside the fence.
Sitting in deer blind right now, waiting for it to quit raining. [Linked Image]
