All my revolvers are 38 or 357. I used to shot 45 ACP with moon clips. If I switch to 9mm revolvers i could consolidate ammo and not have to keep 38 and 357. Has anyone shot a 9mm revolver with moon clips ? SW performance models, SP101, or Ruger LCRX series ? Looking for some feedback
I fit a 9mm cylinder to my .357 Blackhawk. I then sold the cylinder after shooting it once. The issue was likely the ammo I built for it. Since I had no other 9mms at the time, I disassembled the ammo. No need to try it again.

What would you like to know? My experience covers a few decades with the S&W 942 and the SP101. The super short story is the advantages of the 9mm w/moon clips are about even with the disadvantages with the 9mm w/moon clips.
"Group think" is not thinking. It is the lack of independent thought. It is a cancer of the mind.
There was a company called Pinnacle High Performance that did really good work on converting S&W revolvers to 9mm. I had a Model 36 that was converted to 9x23mm. It was great overseas because it would shoot just about any version of 9mm I came across. Everyone gripes about cylinder jump and accuracy. I found it to be a non-issue. It was accurate and reliable at bad-breath distances.
I had some daily carry J Frames in 9mm. They shot well despite having a bore diameter made for .357 bullets and not .355. A 9mm in a short barrel is effectively a really hot 38spl +P+ load. I think I used 124rg XTP bullets.
I enjoy shooting revolvers and thought 9 is a better round, less expensive, easier to haul around. Was considering selling my 38 and 357 revolvers but I haven't seen anyone say they gave up 38 and 357 revolvers for 9 so maybe it not a thing. I never considered rechambering the cylinder. Its probably cheaper to sell one gun and buy another.
TKcustom wants $ 350.00
From TKC website
Rechambering your S&W Model's 686, 627, 66, 60 to accept 9mm for full moon clips. J, K, L & N cylinders only: 5, 6, 7 & 8 Shot Cylinders Rechambering to Factory Spec ammo only. No Reloaded ammo. When rechambering a revolver cylinder to 9mm, the cylinder will still shoot NON-HIGH Pressure ammo, 38 SPL or 357 Mag with or without the proper moonclip. No Titanium Cylinders for rechambering to 9mm. No Recessed cylinders $350 to rechamber cylinder, machine & chamfer cylinder. + Return Shipping
I've never seen the advantage of a 9mm in a revolver over a 357. Moon clips blow. Switching over doesn't sound like the juice is worth the squeeze either.

9mm genuinely works in revolvers. But all things considered the 9mm in a revolver is putting a square peg in a round hole. It can be make to work though.

Most of my revolvers are setup for moon clips 986 5 inch 9mm, 686 5 inch 357, 686 2.5 357, 646 40 S&W and a 610 10MM. I enjoy shooting them in local competitions but don't carry any of them very often. The 610 does go hunting.
