Looking for feedback on getting a barrel threaded for a T3x to accept a can.

Have a stainless 7-08 T3X lite and want to shorten and thread to accept a can. Can go either way... going to keep the 7-08 or go to 308.

Keep existing 7-08 barrel on gun and shorten (16", 18" 20"??) and thread?
Buy another barrel already at length and threaded and have installed?
Suggestions on barrel length for factory load ammo (~139 grain for 7-08 and 165-168 grain for 308).

I realize I may be oversimplifying this... but looking an option that's reasonable cost.

Had a lead on a 308 tikka t3 barrel a while back, but still needed to shorten, thread and install. Didn't know if there was a better route.

Thanks Bobo... have adapter already for 1/2-28.

Really looking for feedback on barrel length and route. Thread and shorten existing, buy new barrel - thread and shorten, etc.

I just had my 7mm-08 cut back to 20" from 24". Haven't shot it yet, plan to go this weekend. Also have Ridgeline FFT ..308 with 20" barrel. For me 20" is as short as I want to go. Both are threaded 5/8 x 24.

I've had several 16.5" Creedmoor's with a suppressor that are the handiest guns I've ever handled. I'd personally have that 7/08 cut and threaded by Morgan to 16"-18" and let her eat.

Buy a CTR. 20", and threaded.

I'm wondering about the cost of a T3, threading, shipping, risk, voiding warranty vs. buying a CTR and screwing on the can. Between myself and shooters I know personally, it's like 7-8 CTR's, 1/2 of those with suppressors. All great shooters.
Do you know about the features of the CTR over the T3? Check it out.

Thx S&W. Well aware of the CTR. In DFW area so not looking to ship gun anywhere. May have access to T3 barrel in 308 to shorten and thread...

Existing T3x in 7-08 has several other things done so wanting to avoid an additional gun.

Hindsight... could have gone straight to CTX.

But... back to what I have.

Just take it to Morgan at Dallas shooting Supplies and have yours cut and threaded. My 7-08 is 17” and just about perfect. Morgan has probably done half a dozen for me.

This!

Does he take the barreled action and reinstall or does he only accept the barrel?

I hear about this shop, has to be good.

Action can stay on

Has to be stripped to barreled action only, need trigger assembly and scope mount removed.

Used to do disassembly but no time anymore with my heavy workload

75 if only threading, 100 if shortening

Then just include a return label. Most of my customers use pirateship.com

5-7 business day turnaround

Don’t do drop offs anymore, mail in jobs keep me full 24/7

Shoot me an email if need any work done

No I don’t do any thread protectors anymore. I usually recommend down range brand from eBay, any shape and size cheap

Your price is great and reputation for quality makes this a better option over buying a CTR. Thanks for the info.

If you are concerned about using adapters, there are smiths out there who are threading Tikka Lite profile barrels with 5/8-24 threads and adding a collar to shoulder against. Kampfeld, LRI, Shaen Rifles, etc.

Here is an example of one that I had done by Mountain Industrial.
