Been using a guy way up North that does really good work at a fair price. Looking for someone closer to home that can turn and chamber a blank? Shipping is a killer now...round trip is close to $75 or more. I checked with Alamo and I think they discourage outside work by pricing it unrealistically. Had them quote $500 just to chamber my blank. So on the hunt...any help?

He is in Wylie. He was unavailable the last time I had one chambered and I hate that I didn’t wait. Excellent work. 6-8 weeks out last I talked to him.
Bartlein will chamber it themselves cheaper than what you said Alamo quoted. $310 but comes with a long wait.

S&S precision in Denton does excellent work in a timely fashion. They have and still do build rifles for national champions and world champions.

Who does barrel work and is reasonable What's reasonable? A decent lathe is $9000. Tooling and instruments will be about that much again. Then what's the man's skills and time worth? How much does $400 make a dent in $18,000?

But by the time you pay the man for his time and skills that’s irrelevant. It could cost twice that and if it’s done right it’s worth it. A cheap job done poorly is a loss from the jump. You can waste hundreds of rounds trying to make a bad chamber shoot right. Worse than the cost of your components is your time, especially if you can’t shoot in your back yard and it takes months to sort out a bad chamber job.
The most positive feedback I’ve saw on here has been from people getting a rifle chambered through JG. Although I don’t doubt anyone else listed above.

I thought 8-900 was typical to buy a barrel and have it turned? So we can have it done for less?

I've used TS Custom Rifles multiple times for prefits. He uses benchmark barrels. On their labor day sale, I got a prefit for $600 shipped. Took right at 3 weeks to arrive. Hes top notch IMO.

After thinking into this a bit I have come to a few contusions. I have used Anthony at Crown Ridge and he is very reasonable. I have purchased turn key barrels from him that have been stoopid accurate. The thing that you must do is purchase his barrel that he only threads and chambers. He will not custom turn a blank that you send him. I have purchased one of his turn key barrels, delivered for a bit over $400. I am certain that you can spend much more and likely get a much better barrel. Is it worth more to spend more? It seem the cost increases exponentially and for some that may equate to an expense they might wish to incur for a perceived gain that may be necessary. The last barrel Anthony chambered for me (6mm Creed) has shot the best 100 yd group I have ever laid on paper. For me ...worth every penny! In the future I will need to work with what is available. Or be willing to wait.
