Question? Can adjusting the trigger pull cause misfires by not striking the primer with enough force to set the primer off? Thanks Daniel

Shouldn't...that is more about firing pin spring tension or pin fall and not trigger poundage.

^^ Correct. Adjusting the pull weight shouldn't do it. Is it in an AR or bolt gun? Make sure to clean out the trigger really well. If you've had any pierced primers, you will need to clean everything out really well. It could also do some damage.

Sure can. Need to know what kind of gun. Over-shim a leaf spring on an 1892 or SAA trigger and you can get light strikes...so can lightening the trigger spring on a Ruger Blackhawk.

Pass the gravy.

I don't guess I told you about the Seekins bolt action that was light striking every third primer, and eventually became every primer. I removed the Timney and installed a Trigger Tech. No more light primer strikes.

The rifle in question is a Ruger American. The rifle is the wife's and when we got it little over a year year ago, the trigger pull hurt to fire it. I lightened it and that is when it started acting up. I put primers in 4 NEW pieces of brass , no powder, gun fire All 4 AFTER I ADJUSTED TRIGGER PULL HEAVIER. guess we will see if a doe walks by her stand this morning.

Light primer strikes can be lots of things...bolt handle touching stock, trigger sear dragging, firing pin dragging on bolt shroud, bad trigger, worn out firing pin spring, pin touching side of bolt face, previous popped primer, etc, etc, etc....

But the question was "Can adjusting the trigger pull cause misfires by not striking the primer"...my response was "Shouldn't"...that alone "shouldn't" cause light primer strikes, especially if it was working fine before.

That has that funky bladed trigger if I remember correctly...my trigger experience is very lacking on the Savage or Ruger triggers...my experience is around customs and aftermarket triggers.

Good luck and sorry I'm not much help.

Took bolt and cleaned the devil out of it. Let the brake cleaner dry then put a small shot of graphite powder in the bolt around the bolt spring. Put it all back together and fired 5 rounds thru next it every one fired. So maybe problem is solved. Thanks Daniel

I had a Timney #517 (1-1/2 - 4lb pull) in a Remington700 do that to me. It shot fine for the factory set pull weight.

I lightened it to when my old trigger gauge read 2 pounds and would get light primer strikes / no fires. Turned the weight up and it would shoot fine. Turn it back down and same thing, not firing.

Tried a different trigger gauge and realized my old gauge would read too high. I was initially turning the poundage a little below the 1-1/2 pounds and it would fire. Bumped back to 2 pounds on the new gauge and all was good.
