Treated a bunch of fire ant mounds a couple of seeks ago with ZERO results. It was Amdro from last year, so I assumed heat in the garage had gotten to it. So I bought a new 1# container of brand name Amdro fire ant bait at Lowes on Saturday and treated 6 mounds when I got home. I checked today and all 6 mounds are thriving and there is still Amdro granules on top of the mound.
Anybody else seeing this?
I guess is back to the smelly Orthene, unless there is a new alternative.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

My fire ants became immune to Orthene years ago. Only good thing about drought is the ants don’t show up without rain. I’ve had good luck with Amdro, but only applied fresh.

Orthene is great but I am a Amdro fanboy. My 1yr old container is working fine, used it a couple weeks ago. I don't get many mounds so a container last me a while. Couple thoughts nak. Amdro isn't designed to be sprinkled on top of the mound like Orthene. Sprinkling the mound might have worked for you in the past but the label specifically says not to sprinkle/disturb the mound. It's designed for you sprinkle around the mound and let the worker ants find it and bring it into the nest. I do 6" to a couple feet around. Within 10 mintures you'll see workers carrying it around and to the mound. Plus it's been cold in the mornings. Which is probably the biggest factor. Workers aren't out actively doing their thing with 40-45 deg lows until it warms up throughout the day. Amdro is always a few day kill for me but kills thoroughly for me. Give it a few days and see what happens.

Dig into a mound with a shovel taking a big scoop of them and quickly run dump it onto the next closest mound. You just nuked them both and they all fight each other to the death. Both mounds will be dead in 12 hours.

Any type of insect bait like Amdro is only good for 60-90 days after it is opened. I have also had some unopened that sat on the shelf for a couple of seasons that also didn't work. Once it gets "stale" they won't eat it.

Orthene is the bomb. That is what I used when I noticed Amdro quit working. I switched when a buddy showed me ant mounds where the ants had just moved the Amdro off to the side. Now I use some of the lower cost brands and switch every year or so.

No fire ants here. Crazy ants have run them off. At least that is what I was told by guy at local nursery. Cant seem kill the crazy ants.
If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

Not sure if it's crazy or pharaoh ant I have but they will build nest in my potted plants outside and get on the cat food I feed my outdoor cat and they don't sting. I spray my perimeter of the house with Suspend Polyzone and Tekko. I get a really good control for about 90 days. Once I feed the cat and see an ant it's my reminder to respray. Sprayed a couple weeks ago with Suspend, Tekko and Demon WP mixed together. I'm not seeing anything living.

Little yellow ants. The mound dirt is fine as baby powder. They dont follow any apparent order, when you disturb tge mound they scurry around as if disoriented. Advance carpenter ant killer was recommended. Maybe my mix is off. I may have some diatomaceous earth.

I guess is back to the smelly Orthene, unless there is a new alternative. Working great for me. Not just at home. I used it last year on several huge mounds around our deer lease camp house. Killed them all. Used the same bottle on a couple new ones recently and they were dead gone a few days later. I was having trouble with fire ants overpowering my duke coon traps and started sprinkling a little amdro around each set. By doing that I ended up eradicating fire ants from the immediate area around my feeders last year. I just used up the last of that bottle on this years trap sets and on a red ant mound that is situated right where I step out of my truck to close a gate. I don't know if it worked on the red ants yet, but I will see if they are gone next lease trip. At least one of them crawsl up my leg and gets me every time I get out to open close that gate going in.

Few days of warmer weather. About have the mounds show a decrease in numbers, but not all dead. The two mounds in the flower bed do not seem phased at all.
My neigbor said he has seen the same thing. Says he switched to Orthene last spring.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

Only time I have a problem with ants is when I don't mow an area for awhile and the grass gets high. Mowing over it always takes care of them and they leave the mound. For places I can't mow, I use Diatomaceous Earth.

Soak the mound a couple of times with gasoline and toss a match. Repeat as needed.

Bifen IT. Two to three ounces in three gallons of water. Soak the mound. Adios el fuegoes.

Wood ants are bad; especially if they get in the trees. Last spring a massive limb fell off a big oak in my back yard. It essentially split where it started from the trunk. I got on a ladder to look. It was loaded with the small ants. Over time, they had weakened the limb at the base. The weight and some wind took it down. Luckily, it missed my workshop. I’m seasoning a lot of split firewood.
