Is there a difference in the cost of doing deferred adjudication vs defensive driving? Ticket was in fort worth.

Defensive driving is just court costs but you will have to pay someone for the course and it's a PITA class. Deferred is both court costs and a fee not higher than the original fine.

I think either way, you have to pay the cost of the ticket.

What Trapper said, deferred adjudications, is same cost of ticket, then don't get a ticket in the next 12 months usually.

Call your auto insurer and see if you get a discount for defensive driving, don't mention a citation, that's usually the only benefit to do it without any order.

I attended a "Comedy Defensive Driving" course once for a ticket, it wasn't bad, especially since dinner was included.
I do the online Defensive Driving course every 3 years for the 10% ins discount. It's only $25 and 6hrs of your time.

No, it's usually 180 days or less, depending on the city/county or if it's a State Trooper.

Do defensive driving. Much easier and cheaper! Plus, you usually get 10% off your insurance.

It's usually $100 cheaper, even with the $25 defensive driving fee and $10 or $12 certified copy of your driving record, to do defensive driving over deferred adjudication. However, you can't take defensive driving again for 1 year.

birth of last child, time for a lemon to ripen? lol! both seem like a long time. But to the op, the discount on insurance mite be a deal, although you will never notice it.

I used to use these guys successfully when I lived in the metro mess. They would get me like 30 days probation and a reduced fine by about the same amount as their fee. Just follow their instructions and don’t ignore any correspondence.

Probably used them 6 times over 20 years without issue.

Last time probably 8 years ago fee was like $40 and got a reduced fine by like $30 or something like that. Give them a call.

To be determined

Probably going to depend on which jurisdiction issued the ticket. When I was in my teens and twenties, I think I was on deferred adjudication in 2-3 cities at a time usually. Now that I'm smarter, I can't remember the last time I've ever been pulled over. I'd just go with deferred if I got a ticket now. The extra cost would be worth not having to hassle with having to take a class.

Many courts won't allow you to take a differed sentence if you are eligible for defensive driving ... meaning if you haven't taken a class in the last two years, that's what they will require to suspend the charge. I only got differed once back in my ticket days and it was because I was not eligible for class. Funny thing is I got a ticket while on differed but a lawyer drug out the court date until my differed ticket was clear. That one ended up being dismissed anyway. hammer

I get a ticket about once every year or so. Depending on the jurisdiction and how long they want for deferred adjudication, I have seen 3 months, 6 months, and a year. I had one that I took defensive driving on and it worked just like deferred adjudication, if I got another ticket, it and the original ticket still went on my record.
I have been lucky and never doubled up.
Years ago you could get a reduced rate from the court for deferred adjudication or defensive driving, they all seem to want about the same amount anymore. It is a revenue for them.

I had an attorney who handled all my tickets. Deferred adjudication was okay for me. 6 months of careful driving. Looking back on all my tickets I could have easily avoided them. I save the defensive driving for the rare occasion when I can’t get an attorney to take care of me.

Traffic tickets are for revenue generation and have nothing to do with safety. If it was about safety then the troopers and their buddies would be on the interstates having a field day.

I ran a lot of regular folks who were very surprised they had a warrant because they had hired a ticket lawyer. When they have 30-40 thousand tickets to deal with a month, apparently some fall through the cracks.

Used to be good, but not worth it anymore.

As I get older, I take great pride in driving the exact speed limit, just to pizz off all the soccer Mom's running around town, who are too self-centered to think don't they apply to her!! I will agree, however, most speed limits are set too low, and were based on older times, poor road conditions, little or no markings, and improper grading so water doesn't run off properly. Heck, if the counties or State would trim back bushes and hedges so you could see the deer, it would be a great improvement!!!

The one thing I do NOT tolerate is speeding in school zones, passing stopped school buses, or not yielding to kids in crosswalks. Hit a kid, and I don't think they can bury you deep enough!!!

I didn't see the sign. The cop was two lanes over going the same way. I saw him, but thought I was good. Made me pull over in a horrific location.
