I had the best day. I am old and not really lost. Was hunting on lbj grasslands I did get lost. Walked 5 miles. Many cars passed me , I was headed to Alvord. Game Warden picked me up, nice guy. Never thought I would like to see those red and blue lights

I got lost there too when I was 15/16. Walked for a long time before I found our camp.

Glad you got some help! I got lost on Christmas Eve squirrel hunting at White Oak Creek. Walked so far I threw the only squirrel I had in my bags away to lighten my load. Had some young fellas pick me up. They had been duck hunting that morning and their boat blew away across the lake and a guy stopped and helped them. They said they were returning the favor. We got to talking on the drive to my truck and found out they lived in the same town as I did 2 hours away.

I know some will disagree, but I’ve had nothing but positive things to say an about game wardens.
All my interactions have been positive and I always felt they are professional.

I have only had one bad interaction with a Texas game warden and I think that was because of a past situation with the guide I was hunting with. I was hunting private land for pheasant next to the Rita Blanca Grasslands and the game warden was convinced that I had crossed the fence and was hunting the grasslands which was absolutely false. I just got back from Wyoming antelope hunting and every interaction I had there with a game warden there was 100% positive and helpful. One of the game wardens actually suggested a particular part of the unit to me which is where I ended up killing my antelope.

For the most part they are just like everybody else. Treat them the way you want to be treated and they will do the same in return.

Thanks for all the replies. I did not have a phone or compass. I made a mistake that day. Thought I could go out and return with no problem. Now I take the GPS I used when elk hunting in Colorado. Hunted today, only saw two cottontail rabbits. Happy to see those guys coming back.

If you want a back up on your phone, There are several free GPS apps that you can use with no service. Gaia is one and I'm happy to walk you through using any of them

Neither for Google Maps. You can download map regions for offline.

Both are handy.

To be determined

'Walked up to 3 of them at the Junction Farmers' Market Saturday. They couldn't have been nicer. One was Kimble County, one Webb, and one Starr. The young man from Starr said being in Junction was like a vacation. I don't doubt it, with the extra crap they pile on those boys on account of the mojados.

I've had probably a dozen or so encounters with wardens over the years and all were professional and cordial - except for one.

That one involved a fishing trip in the marsh downriver from New Orleans. It was on the second of July and my license expired on 30 June. I explained that I always renew my license in June each year but had simply forget to do so. I showed the guy my two-day expired saltwater license, freshwater license, basic hunting license, big game license, primitive weapon license, and bow license and assured him they would all be renewed in a day or two, but he ticketed me anyway.

Yeah, I was wrong, and he had a right to ticket me. But I thought he was kind of a (Richard) for not giving me a break.

If you can't laugh at yourself, give me a call. I'll gladly laugh at you.

How did you get lost on LBJ grasslands? I've turkey hunted the biggest sections years ago (back before smart phones) and never had a compass or nothing....just those maps they give you.

Never even came close to getting lost
