Ok here's the story. Been watching this guy since big nubs appeared on his head this spring. He's been coming to the feeder twice a day for 6 months. Set up a ground blind and began watching his movement. With today being the archery opener I was as ready as I could have been. I've been practicing 20, 25, 30 and 40 yards for about a month and was very confident with these ranges. I get in the blind at 6:15 this morning and wait at 7 when the feeder went off no one showed up?? Anyway at 7:15 here comes a doe and fawn straight at me on the food plot. She gets 70 yards from me and stops. She didn't stomp or blow but turned around and left, she knew something wasn't right. She had to scent me but I sprayed my clean hunting clothes the day before and the wife hosed me down before going to the blind. Oh well.
So at 7:30 here comes the big guy and a doe stepping onto the food plot about 30 yards away. So I'm getting ready for the shot and kick the darn BogPod . He hears this and stops then begins quartering away to the left. I see him reaching my 40 yard limit, it's either shot now or wait. I put my pin where it needs to be for 40 yards and let a Bolt fly. I've never shot a deer before with an arrow and when it hit the deer it made one heck of a Thump noise. It was so loud my wife was watching the show from the kitchen window with the window open and heard it.
Snuck out of the blind and found my arrow, yep good red blood on it. Walked to the house and drank coffee for 1 hour. My wife and I started looking as to where he entered the timber looking for blood. None, nope nada!! Picked up his hoof tracks in the creek bottom still looking for blood still nothing. His tracks stopped in the creek bottom so I climbed the steep bank with my wife still looking for sign in the creek. I took a few steps and there he was off to my left real dead. My Bolt entered his side just in front of his left hip and came out angeling towards the front shoulder on the right. In the picture of him on the shop hoist you can see the exit hole. He bleed internally and was a little messy in the dressing process.
We slid him to the creek bottom and I went to the shop and got my portable winch. Connected to the SXS made short work getting him out of the bottom.
With the Temps raising I made short work getting him cleaned, capped and quartered. He's in a spare frig for the next 5-7 days at 40 degrees.
When I build my shop I installed a 3 ton hoist, it earned its money today. I also put an ice fishing sled under him to catch all the mess. When done I drag it to the pasture and the buzzards were on it within the hour.
What a great hunt/day doing it on my own place.

Crossbow? Which one do you use? Have no fear as i am a xbow user as well and there is nothing wrong worh using what is legal.

TBEye, it's an 8 year old Barnett Brotherhood X bow, but still in great shape. Upgraded scope to better than what came with it. I haven't shot it seriously till this year. It's good to 40 yards all day, but 50 yards it has a mind of it's own.

I am Shooting an older ten point. It still shoots well but i limit to 40 yards. I might take a poke lat 40 like you did but i really like to keep shots to inside 30. Sometimes life doesn’t allow us what we want tho. So good job.

Bought it in Wyoming, we use it to slide cow elk/ off the mountain in the snow. Comes in handy down here also.
