Acquired a new deer lease this year and the road has some sections about 10' long where it's a good size drop off/rut and then levels off then drops off again. I was able to drive the road but had to put my truck in 4-wheel drive.

Would buying bags of cement and placing the bag in those spots work, or is that a bad idea? Any other ideas for this one lane lease road.

Need to run a dozer or a yuke grader over it to fix it right
Don't want a big hole in your oil pan from a big lump of
concrete somewhere in the future

Lying is lying. Don't bitch about one doing it and condone another. That's called hypocrisy.

You said lease. Need to ask the owner before you do stuff like that.

We take care of ruts before they get too bad but with our dirt roads we just drag a disk over it high points fall into low points and away we go.

Looking at fill rocks for a small project. Don't use round or smooth rocks. Crushed rock will lock into its self, round will slide by one another. Look at what railroad uses on their tracks.

A good skid steer operator can fix 10' of ruts in about 5 minutes. No new material needed, unless you want to build it up and crown it.

Its just a lease. You got 4wd - I don't see the reason to fix it.

If it ever rains again, drive over/through them to level it back out. I used cement bags to fill about a 10' rut on my lease and it worked great, expensive though.

I'm tempted not to fix it for that reason; and keep other people out. There isn't a gate up anymore, I found the old one yesterday buried in the grass. There are no hunting/trespassing signs on the trees though facing the road.

Being the first year out there I might see how it goes hunting wise, and if turns out to be good I might put up a fence and fix the road with some of the suggestions you guys made.

Lease Roads

#1 hold my beer moment and 3 of the top 10. Nothing trumps momentum with a turbo diesel and a trailer.

If you do equipment work without adding something to hold it together you’re subject to make a mud pit that impassable the next time you get a good rain. That’s assuming it’s just native soil you’re driving across and not an already improved road.

Diesel and mud just gets me thinking of what is handy to drag it out.

Need to blade it. Then walk it in to pack it. Then blade it a second time to smooth it out and put a crown on it. Until you get it crowned so it will shed water and packed it will be a recurring problem. Need some soil moister for it to pack.
