Looking to have a noce custom made bowie to give as a gift, sharp but doesnt have to be crazy sharp, low maintenance for someone who would appreciate the gift but wont know to take care of it, so probably something shiny or a low maintenance damascus (of there is such a thing).
Would like it to have some sort of coloration for university of texas as he is a grad of UT, subtle is ok, dont need anything really outlandish in burnt orange.
Also, would like a nice piece of wood to act as a showcase for it, something cool looking for an office.
What can you do, how long will it take to make, and how much?

carbon steel is not low maintenance. I would suggest something stainless for someone that is not going to care for it. Right now, probably looking at 2-3 months out and for big knife like a bowie id be about $350 depending on what steel and handle material
