Sharing a few photos from my first trip to South Africa. My wife and I went May 20th-30th 2023 with Sarel Du Plessis and Arika Kruger of Phezule Adventures. The camp was in the Limpopo providence not far from the Botswana border. It was about a four-hour drive from OR Tambo in Johannesburg. We flew Delta, DFW to Atlanta then to Johannesburg.

My original list consisted of kudu, impala, zebra, gemsbok, and blue wildebeest. I told him that I understood this was hunting and I would be open to what opportunities we were given. What I got was sable, blue wildebeest, impala, zebra, waterbuck, gemsbok, and black impala. I used his gun which was a CZ550 in .308. My longest shot was on the wildebeest, which was about 160 yards, the rest were well under 100. The amount of game that you see, and the different species is amazing. The tracking ability of the PH and the tracker is incredible.

The photo process. The perfect spot is picked and everything is cleared so there is no grass or twigs in the photo. The dirt and grass are brushed off and the blood is cleaned with water. There was a steady stream of blood pouring out of the hole on the zebra but you can't see it in the photos.

We went sight-seeing one day to Marekele Predator Park and Adventures with Elephants and the next day we spent at Pilanesberg National Park. I cannot wait until I get the chance to do this trip again!

When we landed at JNB it was 37 F. Most mornings were in the upper 40's to low 50's and it was about 75 for the high. It was cool until around 9:00 by then you were in a short sleeve shirt. It warmed up quick.

The sable was 46.5. There was a group of about 15 with 3 shooter bulls. This one stood out from the others though, his tips almost touched his back when he was walking. They are such majestic animals. I did not have one on my list but I wanted one. We saw them the first day and my PH asked if I was interested in a sable, I grabbed the gun and said let's go have a look. It was the first animal I got and possibly my favorite.

For the record, I read your post and watched your video many times before I went. Thank you!

Glad to hear it....and that is an awesome Sable! Africa is a special place, and I hope to go back many more times.

Thank you.
Nothing formal yet but my wife's WhatsApp message to them yesterday indicates we will be back. She had a great time! She told me the day after we got back that this was the only vacation she has ever been on where she had to try to keep from crying when it was time to leave.
