We have a small lot within the national forest up here, about 45 minutes from our house. It is 1 acre within a section of private lots in the forest.
We had a well drilled 2 years ago and went up to check on things and run some water.
At some point we may build a small cabin, many folks have really nice houses they use all summer.
No electricity to the area, all utilize solar for power and propane for heat and cooking.

Driller told us our well produces at least 8 gpm but we think it is much better than that, will get water tested this summer some time. It comes out of the ground at about 36 degrees.

Moose have decided our driveway is a great path to the mineral site across the road at another cabin, tracks up and down the driveway.

Some huge moose tracks, no cattle in the area.

For those wondering, we had an older guy "witch" our lot for the well spot. He marked 2 spots that he thought were good and we picked the easiest to drill in, hit great water . He uses brass rods to witch with.

My folks built a house in the early 70's and my dad had a guy come and witch for a water well spot. Me being a know it all high-school kid didn't believe in witching. The man showed up and found the spot with a willow tree limb he cut by the stock tank. Me being a non believer he said "grab ahold of one side of the Y and try and pull it up."
Using all I had I couldn't pull up on the stick over the well spot, made a believer out of me.

that is the weirdest but coolest thing that actually works....I just dont understand the how of it and it drives me crazy with the "it is just where the water is" explanation....

If anyone can explain it better, I am all ears.

Wytex, cool place. Madly jealous of that place!

The guy that did it for us owned a well service company for years before retiring and had put in most of the wells in the area until he sold his truck a few years back.
He married a gal that her Dad also had a well company and didn't believe in witching until he met Rocky, the dowser.
He told us about 30 feet or so to water before they drilled and it was 32 ft. How he knows that I'm clueless about.
He also told us it was an under ground creek flowing through our lot and we do have a wet area out front along the road that always has some water in it.

Now know folks that cabin is not ours, it is across the road, but we love our little spot of land.

LQ elk are so we hunt it only occasionally and put up our wall tent for the season when we do. Access in, limited due to snow, is from about late June to Oct/Nov or so.
Lots of black bears around the area too.

My grandfather was amazing at finding underground water…. Used two 3’ brass brazing rods with 6” bent 90 degrees into a handle. My dad and I both can witch but not as good as my grandfather. I witched my water well. Flowing strong running 24/4-5 watering trees. When we first got it running last July/August ran it 24/7 for a month. Water didn’t drop 2” downhole

I tried "witching" for a well once. Damn near drowned when I fell into the river.

I witched mine using bent welding rods. Confirmed it with a forked limb. Only 1/10 gpm but it does it 24 hrs per day. I pump into a 2,500 gallon black tank.
So far, so good after 20 years.

I’ve done it with bent brass rods and forked sticks. I witched my well and wasn’t sure what happened. But, it worked.
