For small plots I just use one of the bag spreaders, have done as large as 3 acres years ago with one. If doing bigger plots though the 3pt hitch spreader on the tractor for seed and fertlizer

I use a John Deere pull-behind fertilizer spreader that I picked up at a garage sale. Typically, I mix fertilizer and seed together before spreading the mixture with my ATV. Some recommend spreading the seed first and then fertilizing later once the seedlings are established but I can't say I've seen much of a difference.

for small plots, I use a 5 gallon bucket and spread by hand. For larger plots a 3 point spreader.

I've got a two acre plot that I spread seed with a bag spreader that I got at tractor supply for $40. It holds about 15 pounds of seed, so I have to refill several times. I will plant 200lbs of oats. But it works for me.
