Went to my lease last Saturday.
Did not take long for it to get hot.
and it's gonna get hotter......
Got out to my stand about 8PM. Not a breath of a breezes blowing, & sun still broiling. With temps in the 90's, no breeze and sweating like a politician telling the truth, sometimes I wonder if I'm nuts doing this stuff at my age. Nah'
Saw a coyote about 9:30 and tracked him a bit. With thermal, depth perception "sux" if you don't have a range finder. Luckily I've hunted this spot enough to where I have landmarks at known distances. This 'yote was over 300 yds. so even though my rifle is suppressed I did not want to disturb the eve with a "hail mary" bullet lob. Did get some video.
Two pigs came in about 10pm. Could not get a clear shot on the larger of the two so I waited for the one coming around my pen. When she got in front and gave a good broadside, I nailed her.
Sunday was nasty. In the hill country, a typical morning is cloud cover till about 11 AM. Not this day. Not a cloud in sight. Got out about 7 AM and was soaking wet by 8AM.
I always set traps, pens and snares.
Sunday morning I caught this one in a snare.
By time I got back to camp at 10 AM it was already 95 degrees.
Spent most of the day in the camper. Highest reading I saw was 106 in the shade. It was 103 degrees when I went out at 8PM. Once again, not a hint of a breeze, and in the stand I felt like I was stewing in my own juices. Luckily a sounder came in @ 9:30 or so and I was able to quit and get out of the stand early.
It was a balmy 93 degrees when I got back to camp at 11 pm.
Oh', the joy of hunting the Texas Hill country in June.
Some consolation, all three pigs were sows. Warms the cockles of my heart to be commiting swine genocide.
But, all things considered I may just skip July and August!
ya!
