On the way back from San Antonio, we went to Taylor for BBQ. I had always wanted to try Louis Mueller’s. The pork ribs and brisket were great. The cole slaw was awful. Shoulda tried the tater salad and beans. I can’t say it was as good as 407, but it was delicious. And I haven’t been to 407 since Cast was alive, so a comparison would be difficult. I’d have to try the beans and tater salad for a real comparison.

When I went there a handful of years ago I remember the sides being very meh.

where a lot of the now popular Austin BBQ joints pit masters learned their trade before venturing out on their own ... Franklin, Stiles Switch, LA, John Mueller ... to name a few.

John Mueller actually passed away a few years ago.

I can’t make it through Taylor without a beef rib from Louie Muellers!

didn't know that ... thanks! One of his last ventures was in Georgetown, a food trailer near downtown, I think it was called Black Box BBQ? It wasn't open very long and I never made it by there. Personally, I don't go to a BBQ place for the sides, brisket is my primary judging point

Louie's Mueller is outstanding BBQ. A friend from Maryland was lecturing at A&M a few years ago and before flying home we went to Snow's for "breakfast" then Louie Mueller's for a late lunch.

I had the beef rib and some jalapeno sausage (he had brisket and something else). Pretty sure I didn't have sides.

Such a cool and iconic place that should be on every Texan's "gotta eat here at least one" list.

When he was young, I told Dale Jr. that hunting and racing are a lot alike. Holding that steering wheel and holding that rifle both mean you better be responsible.

He had Black Box here in a trailer in GT. He was supposed to open a brick and mortar restaurant here but that fell apart before it could happen and he disappeared for a few years. He popped back up in Granger but I never made it there. His beef ribs were phenomenal, I think he had Louie Mueller's beat, but those are outstanding as well.

He was a cantankerous guy with a lot of demons, but he could cook.

Had lunch at Louie Mueller's today. Brisket and ribs were good but not as good as 407, Pecan Lodge or Cattleack. I got pinto beans for a side and they tasted like Ranch Style beans. $25 for lunch. Now I can say I have eaten there.

I mentioned that we had the pork ribs and brisket when we were there. I thought it was good, but quite honestly the BBQ at the place on Lake Limestone is better. The place has the unappealing name of Old Union Eats, but the food is real good. Brisket as good as Louis Mueller’s and the ribs are better. Excellent tater salad too. Beans not so good. Unless you are fishing on Lake Limestone though, it’s geographically undesirable.

Took the family there a few years ago after reading all the hype… was expecting greatness and just okness! Spent almost $200 for brisket, ribs, beef rib, sausage, maybe turkey and sides and walked out like I had be violated! I’m not a BBQ snob but it was very, very average!!

As a previous posted said “I can now say I’ve eaten there.”

I loved it when we went. I guess every place can have a down day, I was looking forward to and waited in line for Cattleack and It wasn't great the day we tried it...but I would give it another chance.

Wow. While that is a fine-looking rib...I would never pay $43 for one.
