Took off for the lease last Thursday week. Planning on moving my RV and filling feeders. Wouldn't you know that it would rain 4.5 " a couple days before I went, then a frog choker hours before I arrived, and then again on Saturday. Almost got stuck coming in. No bueno on the move. Picked up 40 bags of Persimmon Scented Corn @ Waller Rice Dryer. Patty Payne sez' that if you want deer, use apple scented corn, and if you want your neighbor's deer, use persimmon scented corn........ Also stopped in Uvalde to pick up DoubleDown and other necessary provisions........ Didn't get there till late Thursday eve and did not sit out. I keep game cams set out. Last time I was at my lease was 4/22. In retrospect this was a hog I did not have on game cam before this trip. Rather unusual to see a boar this size in the daylight hours. Anywho, I got to the stand about 8PM Friday night. He came in about 9 PM. I had just looked thru the thermal optic a couple minutes before having seen nothing other than birds and bunnies up to this point and, voila' there he was. One thing about thermal, it is hard to judge distance and size. I could tell he was a good boar. Boars of this size are few and far between and I did every thing wrong. You'd think that as many hogs as I've shot, I would not get excited but I do. I was set up with my rifle in a tripod pointed the opposite direction. He must have had a death wish as I banged and clattered on the stand windows with both the tripod and rifle. I guess at 100+ yds. the noise mattered more to me than it did to him as he was still there when I got set back up. In my haste, I did not set the video recorder. Pictures do not do justice to the girth of this boar. I did not have access to a scale but I do believe he would have been in the top 5 of all the boars I've shot as to weight. Posed with a pistol for reference. I luv' this stuff! ya! GWB

That's a nice boar, Geedub. Good story too.
I've had problems with a rifle sitting in the blind with hogs about 100 yards away under the feeder. One night I had to rack five or six rounds through my AR15 because I'd messed up resizing the cases, and the hogs paid it no mind. They did haul [censored] when I fired seven or eight times, missing every shot because I'd screwed up reticle selection on my thermal. I don't think anything at all went right that night except that I managed to get back to camp in one piece.
On a more recent trip I saw a lone hog under the feeder using another thermal. I didn't think the size was unusual...as you say it's hard to judge size and distance using one. Anyway I fired on a hog and it went down. When I walked up to the feeder I though I was looking at a cow pie for a moment, it was that small---about as big as a housecat. I'd never seen such a small hog out wandering by itself and would never have expected to.

Good job on that boar, looks like a good one from the pics for sure. Nice and healthy, very solid looking.
I know what you mean on getting amped up. Normally I don't get that way at all, but it happened to me stalking one here a month or so ago. Don't know why, except maybe because it was very still and I could hear every move he was making, and knew I had to be super quiet and careful with my stalk. IDK, just happens sometimes. But you got him killed and that is all that matters.

That boar looks virtually circular in cross-section. I am reminded of Dr. Gonzo, in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," ordering the frightened gas station attendant to put 75 pounds of pressure in the rented Caddie's tires ...
