Shooting in the tournament at defender in Fort Worth tomorrow.
Shotgun: Benelli SBE2 Load: 1 1/8oz., 1250 fps, 7.5 shot
Usually shoot a Modified for everything (except hunting over decoys).
Wanted to ask the group if you think Mod choke is too much or just right for sporting clays.
Not a big sporting clays guy so all your shooting wisdom is appreciated.
Cheers

When I shot sporting clays I typically shoot a modified and improved modified in my O/U.
I like a tighter choke for clays
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Light Mod will usually handle the majority of targets on most courses. If you don't have LM I would roll with IC.

90% of the time, I run LM over LM... Other 10%, its LM over IC.
Might as well JB weld my LM in my dove gun.

Just weld a LM choke in. IC is plenty for 99% of target thrown at benefit type shoots.

Improved Cylinder for most recreational shoots.
When the machines are cranked up with 40-50 yard crossers, your brain will have to kick in and get your choke tube spinner wrench out and get tighter.
BTW, the load you have chosen is very effective, but you'll probably be sore the next day (shoulder).

I used to shoot SK or IC. About 5 years ago I bought a LM and haven't gone back. I had to buy another one so I can shoot LM/LM.

Depends on the course. For most courses LM is perfect. Some target setters like to throw in some really long targets and modified can make more sense on those courses.

Thanks guys, had to switch to skeet on some stations because the targets were so close. (Probably because it was a charity shoot) Shot an 88 personally but our team was middle of the pack. Winning team shot a 376 so pretty good. Might have to get me a LM now though And yes Buzzsaw, shoulder was well tenderized by the last station I’m on the right, uncles and cousin to my left

NSCA sanctioned shoots I run LM/LM 95% of the time. The other 5% I run LM/SK. Fun shoots/Charity shoots SK/SK. Anything over LM for sporting clays or 5 stand is too tight imo. I’ll even use light mod on trap from 16yd to 20yd. FWIW I shot with a guy that forgot his chokes and shot an NSCA match with SK/SK that someone loaned him and he was able to break 90% of the clays at 30+ yds. We even had one station that breaks were between 45-50 yds. The more I shoot the more I realize I’ve been over choked.

Tight chokes can normally help with a couple of the longer targets but can cost you even more on the really close ones. IC if only one choke.

I have always. used SK chokes out to 40yards with no problem. If its 50 yard shots I won't lie I have a hard time with any choke size. im just not good at 50 yard plus crossers.

I usually choke LM/LM on most NSCA targets with SK/IC on rabbits/near targets. Charity shoots usually IC/SK. Most targets both within 30 yds average. Good score on your Charity shoot.
