My preference for drivers when I go down there on business are large men in black suits and sunglasses that give off that "ex special forces" vibe. But you do you. Safe travels!

I’ve traveled sometimes in my career that way but nowadays I believe that transforms me from a nobody to a somebody of interest. It’s not going to be Man on Fire protecting you.

Some years back we flew to Porta Vallarta - the home we rented provided a person to transport us from the airport to the house - we jump into his car and we were not 100 years from the airport we got pulled over - driver gets out and goes back to the "cop" - comes back to our car and says we either pay the cop $1000 or we go to jail! He said only taxi drivers were allowed to pick up at the airport - I told our driver no way - said I will give him $100 - the cop took it and we were on our way - what a scam!

Very different down there now than when I had to go there from what I hear.

I got stopped a few years back. Refused to pay the “Mordida” to transit cop. He took my ID and said I would have to go get it from the judge. I said fine, tell me where. Thought I could just get a replacement.
He initially wanted 40 bucks. We agreed on 5. I did run the light. Worked for both of us.
