I've been given a hunt for a black buck antelope by some friends that own a game ranch. I dont know much about a black buck, I know they aint that big. Just wandering what caliber is best say at a hundred yards. My four favorite hunting rounds are the .308, 7mm08, .257 Roberts and .22-250. Any advice, I dont want to show up over or under gunned.

I dunno about blackbuck but the .308 sounds like your best bet to me. I don't think you'd be either undergunned or overgunned using a .308 for most stuff, but I'd make sure to choose the right bullet---whatever that might be.

257 Roberts would’ve my pick. However any of them will work. Blackbuck aren’t all that hard to kill.

22-250 would kill one pretty easy I think so you're good, which ever one you shoot best
They are beautiful animals

The 2 black bucks I have killed were with 22-250 and 257 Roberts. Like said they are not that big or particularly hard to kill. Just put it through the lungs with either and they will not go that far.
Killed a black buck, Fallow and 3 pigs with the 257 the first time I took it hunting.

Whichever one your shoot the best. Easy to kill but definitely a smaller target than a deer. What would be you’re preference for a coyote hunt?

Some game ranches have minimums to cut down on lost animals, have you asked the owners?

Which ever one you want.
You've got three rifles so close together it doesn't really matter. 257 Bob, 7mm-08, 308.
7mm-08 is my go to "do it all" cartridge, and it's with me every day.

I don’t think any of those will get it done. You should probably look into a 30-378. I’d probably take the 7-08 or the 257.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

The ones we shot were with a .22-250 and a 55 grain V-max Any of those would be fine, but it’s a great animal to use a gun you don’t normally hunt with
They are only about 80 lbs
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

My son wilted one at at 302 yards with my 7-08. I would not hesitate to use any of the rifles you mentioned.

I would say 257 bob or 22-250, they are small animals that aren’t very tough to kill. We cut up several at work that people cannons to shoot them with and they get very little meat back

While not on your list, I think the .243 is just about the perfect antelope round, and would certainly be the first pick out of my safe. Out of your list, I'd go with the .257 all day long.

Any of those will work with the proper bullet...which is more important than the cartridge.

Black Bucks are 90-105 lbs on the hoove. I shot mine with a 300 Win mag. Wasn't my intent. I was hunting Whitetail and or Axis. Trophy BB came out at 180 yards. Hardest part was waiting for him to turn just right so I could hit him clean without damaging to much meat. Any of those Cal. you have will work with no problem. BB are very easy to kill. I've guided a few successful BB hunts. One with a 22-250 and one with a 25-06. Both hunters shot behind the shoulder and both BB were DRT. Good Luck on your hunt.

You make it sound like you use a .30 cal they are going to get a little lunch sack with some meat scraps back from the processor. Where do people come up with this stuff? One of the most ridiculous sayings ever in the hunting world is “it tears up too much meat”. Proper shot placement accounted for, whatever meat you lose by using a large caliber is gonna be measured in ounces, not pounds.

Im with you on tearing up meat. I shot several deer and pigs with my 300 and exit wounds have been almost fist sized when hitting meat and bone. I don't care as long as it drops quick and doesn't run off. The BB, I was trying to protect the Hide for a mount more than the meat. I would say 257 bob or 22-250, they are small animals that aren’t very tough to kill. I shot a steenbok once (~25lbs.)...with a .416 Rigby.
