Hey everybody,

I’m trying to figure out if I want to drive 100 miles for a 2 day trip up to Gus. I plan on scouting the first day and hunting the second. Has anyone hunted Duck in this WMA.

How’s access?
How flooded will the timber be this time of the year? I know we haven’t had much rain but I’m not familiar with their water sheds/creeks.

Any other tips before I decide on making the drive would be great. I’m not looking for spots just information regarding the area.

Thanks

Dry is an understatement right now. Definitely call first. If there is any huntable water or birds, expect company.

I go ahead to tell you there is no way I would drive 100
Miles to hunt Gus this year. Talked to so people that scouted it one day last week and it’s dry and they only saw around 20 birds to even hunt.

And fact that you will only get 6:45 till 12 one day not worth it.

Wish they would go back to a draw hunt, put some wells on the place so they can pump water and guarantee some duck habitat.

Just another texas "wma" with unused potential...

There might be some things in the plans. They’ve been focusing on Richland Creek, but I was told they are almost finished with everything they can do out there as far as duck habitat. So maybe Gus can get some attention now.
