Can't recommend these Moultrie 'All in One' feeders. They are all plastic including the LID!

I have an area on my property way back in the woods where I like to keep corn out.

Normally, I hand broadcast it....but thought I'd give one these inexpensive feeders a try. That way I could just go back there weekly instead of every 2-3 days.

I've never really minded anything eating whatever corn is broadcast (on the ground) from any of my automatic feeders.

But I won't tolerate Raccoons or Squirrels climbing them and tearing them up. There is PLENTY of corn on the ground.

Called Moultrie Customer Service to see if they have replacement lids. NOPE!

Lady said if it was still under warranty they would replace it. Huh....? I said you have a 'squirrel warranty'? She laughed, said no, its just they would replace it under good faith since they don't have a replacement part. I thanked her and declined....the feeder is only about $70.00

But apparently my squirrels are greedy, impatient or lazy. Whatever it is....they are about get 'thinned out'.

Haven't had to get the .17 hmr out in awhile, but I guess its time.

I have a couple old On Time 150lb hanging feeders that came with plastic lids. First time I put them out, squirrels promptly chewed holes in the lids of those too. I found cheap deep dish pizza cooking pans online that fit over the top of the feeders perfectly and no more problems. I also remember I was looking at sheet metal water heater drain pans at the time that would fit over the plastic lid as an inexpensive squirrel deterrent, but I would have had to buy new plastic lids for that to have worked. So I use slip on deep dish pizza pans for lids.

Make a flat lid with 3/4" plywood, with a diameter about two inches larger than the top of the feeder. Put five 1.5" deck screws equally spaced around the edge of the plywood, screwed 1/2" deep into the plywood with 1" standing proud (to prevent the lid from sliding side-to-side). Give it two coats of exterior paint. Works just fine, but you'll need to give it another coat of paint about every other year.

Between the squirrels and the raccoons, it's easy to spend a lot of time picking them off the feeders!

Had to do that at one of my 30 gal. feeders a few years ago.

There was just an insane number of squirrels showing up each day, climbing the feeder and spinning out corn. I'm talking over 20 squirrels.

I don't care if they eat what gets broadcast on the ground. Between the coons and squirrels they would empty a feeder in a couple of weeks.

I took out about 1/2 of them and they finally got the message.

In the coming days I'll be putting up a new cellular game camera with an external antenna that has a 10-ft cable so it can be mounted higher off the ground. It will be interesting to see how long before a squirrel decides to chew through the cable. I'm sure I'll know once the camera no longer appears online.

I used to be butt deep in them. They were a real pain chewing on the plywood siding on house, getting into feeders, etc. then, they mostly disappeared. No idea why.

I’m also running short on rattle snakes. But that’s pigs. I prefer the snakes.

If the cable is going to be a straight run up to the antenna, you can slip a piece of PVC pipe over the cable section to help protect it.

I had the same problems. Got a winch and cable to suspend the feeder, and covered the lid with some metal flashing. Been a couple years, and so far so good. I like the pvc idea for the cable! Squirrel is delicious too.

Hardware cloth on sides and garbage can lid (galvanized) on top.

Black (Rock) squirrels are from the devil. They try to get in a house. We fought them terribly in Grapetown. They've probably taken over the old homestead by now.

I just had to say something. Went out today and the squirrels had gotten me. Time for some squirrels in gravy.

Squirrel & Dumplings!

My dad had a squirrel problem, they were getting into the bird feeders. Problem solved with a electric fence charger. They got zapped a few times then left the feeders alone.

They got under my boat floor and got into my wiring and now my tach doesn't work or my buzzer. 21 ft center console isn't easy to get harness out for repair. I have been wreaking havoc on them
with the pellet gun here in town.
