What’s the verdict on the Bisley grip vs the standard Colt/Ruger/Magnum Research grip? Is it a better mousetrap or just a fad?

I know some people love them, but I prefer the more standard grip. The more standard grip is a touch shorter generally speaking, so if you want a longer grip the bisley would be the way to go. But in my opinion The standard group is a little better with heavier recoil because the gun rolls more instead of going straight back into your hand. But I've read that other people prefer the bisley grip on heavier recoiling guns, so who the hell knows. Good luck

I agree with you RJH1

Syncerus try both if you can and let the gun tell you which feels better.

They look so silly to me I couldn't buy one even if it worked better...kinda like a big loop on a lever gun.

I did fit the special hammer to a regular grip Ruger of mine.

Pass the gravy.

I've changed my Rugers over to the Bisley hammer but I've got a birdseye grip on my .357 mag. and a standard frame on the .44mag.

Of course anything that has been around for 100 years a fad. It just goes back to you like it or you don't.

As others have suggested, try BOTH if you and see which you prefer.

I've used both the Colt Model P and the Ruger Bisley style (never the Colt Bisley) and found that the Colt style "rolls" too much in recoil for my liking. I want as much shot-to-shot consistency as I can muster and (especially in the heavier recoiling calibers) the Ruger Bisley frame provides that FOR ME.

Blonde or brunette? Ginger or Mary Ann?

I guess I'm in the minority in that I always preferred Ginger.

I like the Bisley grip for shooting heavy hard-cast loads.

Ruger Bisley grip for heavy loaded rounds. Does not hurt your hand between thumb and finger like a Colt SAA does.

Best of both worlds. Better hammer without the goofy grip.

I have some Ruger revolvers. My take is the standard Ruger grip works better for me with a two hand grip and a wrapped offhand thumb. Shooting one handed, the Ruger bisley grip works better for me. I never warmed up to shooting with the original Colt bisley grip.

I own several of both and have shot both. MY personal preference is the Bisley, hands down. grin

But, as many have said, personal preference is the key.

I liken it to the difference of opinion about Glocks....great pistols that are reliable and work when they have to. I can't stand the grip angle FOR ME, and so, I only own one. It just happens to be my issued firearm.

Shoot both.

A normal looking Ruger plow handle grip doesn't hurt 49% of the population. The Bisley grip hurts my eyes. hammer

Ruger Bisley fits my hand better and makes shooting heavier loads much less punishing.

The Ruger Bisley grip for me. Much less punishing for heavier loads imho. From Bowen to Linebaugh to Freedom Arms to other custom revolver makers they all adopted more of the Bisley grip than the older standard grip.

Like many here have said, for major recoil it is hard to beat the Bisley grip. It took me a while to figure just how to hold the gun but once that was done, no load was too much or painful. Mine was a Super Blackhawk Bisley in 44 mag and I used to push the loads. But for everything else I prefer the standard Blackhawk grip as it is faster to shoot and more forgiving of a less than perfect grip.
