I recently picked one up on trade from a family member, what is the real world application for this cartridge? its an AR platform rifle. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it as its more or less a middle man between the 300 Ham'r and .458 SOCOM. I'm currently using. anyone have any experience with it? I've already acquired reloading components to work with for it and just looking for advice on setting my expectations realistically.

A friend has one, and from what he says and what I’ve read, it looks to be a good deer or hog gun for up to 200/250 yards.

I have hunted deer and hog with mine. 170gr and 180gr rounds work great on hogs. Very fun rifle to shoot. I have also been able to find ammo over the last year or so when there wasn’t much other ammo available.

The Projectiles I have acquired are Hornady 165 FTX and Hornady 170 SP. I'm hoping one of them will be MOA or better at appropriate velocity and I trust the performance will be as described.

Good hog/deer round out to 200yds, I've got best accuracy with the Federal 165gr Fusion, Hornady 165gr FTX and the Hornady 170gr Interlock. It's no tack driver, but 1.2" 5 shot groups are doable and more than adequate for it's intended hunting role. The real pointed polymer tip rounds won't feed for crap in a AR15 platform, but no issues with the above mentioned loads.
