My wife and I want to run down to the Gulf Coast for a few days and would like some suggestions from any of you who live down there or have been there recently. We've been to Corpus and Port Aransas a couple of times, but find them a bit too busy and touristy for our taste as we gotten a bit older. We're not looking for "action," just good seafood and beaches or piers to walk and sit upon. Tell me what you think we should do and where we should hang our beach hats for a few days.

I like the Rockport and Lamar area. Stayed in Lamar and had some awesome time fishing Compano bay.

Yes; Texas Gulf Coast. And we've ruled out South PI because of the tourist thingy.

Bing, bing, bing. There's a guy on some Club road down there who really likes to cook and sometimes, you have to put up with a clown. Even so, still a great place away from the younger beach partiers. Do lovey that stretch.

Yep, same. I have been going to Rockport a couple of times a year for the about 10 or so years and by far its the best place to fish and avoid a bunch of drunk idiots in Texas. Always have had a great time.

Beaches at sergeant are less populated but restaurant choices are more limited

Rockport has more restaurants and people then Sergeant but less numbers and less drunks then Port A, but not near as pretty beaches or amusing people watching

Pro tip for Port A, for beach time drive past City Maintenance and you will find a lot less people.

If you go about halfway between Port Aransas and Mustang Island state park to the south, there are a lot of condos, hotels, resorts to stay in and you will actually be on the gulf/ocean.
Easy drive to Port A or Corpus Christi to do whatever.

Glad that big water park closed down, guessing a lot less kiddies and more relaxing in that area now

The only downside would be if there is a lot of sea weed moving in ?

Thanks, everyone! We had heard that poor old Rockport was badly beaten the hurricane. If you guys say it's pretty much back on its feet, we'll give it and the area a try! Where should we stay and gimme some names of the good seafood places, please.

Will do, probably within the next few weeks. I'll warn you before we head your way so you can hide your valuables.
