When I was a youngster my grandpa would amaze us with stories of helping on cattle drives when he was 6, or living in a dugout cabin without electricity or running water.
When I finally get grand kid's I'll tell them of the dark ages when you only had 3 channels on TV. And it was a black and white picture, and you had to change channels with your hand.
What will be your "Back in the Day" story for your grand kids? Assuming your'e not already telling them now....

To expand on the "corded phone" ^...how about a rotary dial phone. Put in front of a kid today and ask him to dial a number.
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

How's about those dang old party lines?
Nickel coke machines.
19 cent gas.
Stopping the car when they raised or lowered the flag.

Back in my day we didn’t have queers around every corner. I wonder if they were there, just in the closet?

Let me tell you about the floppy disk drive and three on the tree. Telex and later faxing. Communicating through postal letters.

Back in the day you could leave your back door unlocked and could leave your bike in the front yard overnight.

Back in my day we didn’t have queers around every corner. I wonder if they were there, just in the closet? I’m sure plenty were, but I doubt it was nearly as bad as it is now, since it’s encouraged by mainstream outlets.

jeepman3366 wrote: 8 tracks to cassettes LOL Predating 8 tracks (which came out when I was in my teens) we only had Radio. Mostly AM stations with a few FM stations (in large cities). In the house...Radio and records. 45 rpm singles and 33 rpm albums. Some of the really old singles were 78 rpm. Small portable transistor radios (would fit in a shirt pocket). Circa 1960's I'd go back to those days and simpler times gladly.

Big block v-8s where you could pop the hood back and sit in the engine compartment...... straight 6 where you reach every part and set the timing by moving the distributor.

Rotary dial phones, party lines and phone numbers looked the ones on this old wooden yardstick. Any body ever see payphones anymore? I have seen one in the last year and not sure where I saw it....it was a working pay phone. Outhouses......no running water in the house.....cistern to catch rainwater off the roof.....laying a dark colored garden hose filled with water on the driveway to have hot bath water in the summer time....tv stations signed off with the National Anthem.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

The old push button pre-selects on your car radio that actually moved the dial when you pressed them. Tune to a new station, pull the button OUT to set the new station. Four fuses for everything in the house, and two of those were for the water heater. Steel dash on your car and that big deck in front of the back window for the little kids to lay on.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

Bright light switch on the floor board of your vehicle. 4/40 a/c= 4 windows down doing 40mph. 3 on the tree shifting.

When you could go to the junkyard and actually find just about any replacement part for your vehicle. 5 cents for a QT of reconstituted oil when you couldn't afford the 30 cents for a new one.

Shag carpet Rabbit ear TV antennas & aluminum foil 10 pm sign off with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by a Bullseye, then the bumble bees.
