I have a .45 suppressor I purchased months back and I have been on the look out for a good 45 HOST pistol. I am interested in purchasing a 1911 with a full rail dust cover and a threaded bull barrel. I know that STI use to make a 1911 like this, but they are no longer in production since it seems that high end 9mms are the new craze. Does anyone know of a brand that makes a 1911 with a full rail and threaded bull barrel (instead of Rock Island)? I'm looking to go pretty big with my budget to get the exact one I want, I just don't know if that 1911 with those features is made by anyone else.

Also, I've read somewhere that a commander size (4.25 in) 1911 make for better suppressor host than the Government (5 inch) models. Has anyone else heard this or much better; found this to be true?

Thanks

There definitely aren't many, if any, factory options in this configuration. With a decent budget, have one built. I can't see the 3/4" shorter barrel of the Commander being enough of an advantage over the increase in timing issues a suppressor is going to add to an already-faster cycling gun. The recoil length on a Commander is shorter than a Gov't model, so it has less time to do all that it needs to do. Add 1lb of metal hanging off the muzzle and you're likely to exacerbate that. I have had peers build threaded, bull barrel Gov'ts that worked well, but not had one do a Commander that I've seen. There is a way around both, but it isn't cheap and few offer it.

I think Springfield makes a TRP in that configuration and also possibly nighthawk customs, but can’t remember if it’s full rail or half rail.

I'm sure Nighthawk would do it, but their current Silent Hawk is a barrel with a bushing.

Thank you all for your reply. I am aware of the Springfield TRP Operator with a bull barrel and full dust cover rail. They can still be found on gunbroker and is something I considered buying and having a threaded barrel fitted. I like the stainless, but I have seen one for sale anywhere ever.

I know guncrafter makes one called a model 2. I have a model 1 and they are excellent guns. Pretty expensive and over a thousand dollars more than the discontinued STIs SS Tactical. I might go the guncrafter route as they seem to be the only company making on in that configuration.

I am worried about using a bushing barrel as I have heard that bushing barrels don’t make great host as they can crack where the smooth part of the barrel meets the threading when shooting suppressed. Now, I’m not sure if that would happen with a nighthawk, Ed brown, or Wilson combat, but I’ve heard the bull barrels are the way to go.

Thanks for the insight on the commander vs government question!

it is interesting that WC doesn't offer threaded barrels..

I took my Dan Wesson Valor and put a DW factory threaded barrel in it, minor fitting done by an STI smith friend of mine.
Along with a set of suppressor height sights,
