On a normal weekend the hotels are full and full priced. I had to stay in Austin last time for a wedding. $225 for a bed was rediculous at the Holiday Inn. $99 in Austin. Probably much cheaper now.. Guess depends how much you drink.

There are two hotels. Sleep Inn and Best Western. Both are pretty pricy on weekends during wedding and baseball season. Lots of other private lodging places, but those get booked by wedding parties or wine tours. I hear Hill Country Casitas is nice. For food, treaty oak distillery is good. Try the other places like Jester King brewery and Twisted X. 12 Fox brewery is a neat outside hangout and The Deep Eddy tasting room is fun as well, but both have food trucks. Salt Lick is closed. I hear Tillies restaurant is very good. It’s out at Camp Lucy where many of the weddings are held. Trattoria Lisina is good italian and The Switch BBQ is good. The other local restaurants are nothing special. If you want to hear some music, try Hudson’s on Mercer. If you just want to drink beer, the Barber Shop.

As I mentioned, Holiday Inn Express is there and nice. $302 for this weekend all in for 2 nights with breakfast. That isn't bad. I did stay in Fredericksburg few weeks ago for $59 a night though.

Big yes on Hays City Store, that a good one too. Great CFS. And you’re right, it’s a Holiday Inn Express, not a Best Western in DS.
